Channel 4 Will Putin go nuclear? Irresponsible?

This has terrified my 15 year old daughter and totally made me feel sick.

Speculating on something like this is beyond words imo. I think it’s just sensationalist irresponsible programming. It’s just building in a disgusting g war situation and making it worse. And it was on before the watershed.

She is fifteen not five, if it is something you thought she wouldn't be comfortable watching why didn't you just turn it off? Oh yeah, you wouldn't have anything to righteously complain about then....

georgousbold · 20/03/2022 08:48

There isn't going to be a nuclear war. Goodness sakes. OP is right, it's unnecessary hysteria and it's irresponsible of Channel 4 really.

If in a gazillion odds to 1 we did get a nuclear bomb dropped on us, we would all be dead anyway and you wouldn't want to be here. Enjoy the warmer days OP! Drink nice drinks, enjoy the sunshine. Enjoy yourself. Don't spend life worrying about this sort of thing. Live your life 🍹

CannaBelieve · 20/03/2022 09:12

Op hasn't come back

Probably too embarrassed

Finlandandsweden · 20/03/2022 09:13

One very elderly man told me that there will never be another war as we know war to be, it will be a psychological one. He was right

Er are you actually watching the news??

Finlandandsweden · 20/03/2022 09:14

and you know this because......

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/03/2022 09:16

i like jon snow
so i might watch it

GeidiPrimes · 20/03/2022 09:25

I would say that the channel 4s documentary is to cause more hate/fear towards Putin/Russia. PP was correct in saying this war is largely being waged on a psychological level. But our enemies aren't the Russians, we need to look a lot closer to home to see who is facilitating all of this.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/03/2022 11:08

oh i remember When the wind blows

Cocomarine · 20/03/2022 11:14

@Jamboree01 “One very elderly man told me that there will never be another war as we know war to be, it will be a psychological one. He was right.“

Did you need this random bloke to give you an opinion on that then?

  1. No shit Sherlock that everything changes
  1. Doesn’t all change though. My friend in Kyiv is finding the shelling nearby quite traditional 🤷🏻‍♀️
CremeEggThief · 20/03/2022 11:17

I didn't watch it (didn't know it was on), but how can it be sensationalist and irresponsible? Putin himself told us he was willing to use nuclear weapons...

AlexaShutUp · 20/03/2022 11:32

This is such a weird comment in the context of the current war in Ukraine. It's almost as if some people believe that the shelling isn't real if it isn't happening here in the UK.

Try telling the people of Mariupol that modern warfare is just psychological.Hmm

No he didn't.
CremeEggThief · 20/03/2022 11:46

Er yes he did, georgousbold. He reminded us he had them and he was prepared to use them if NATO got too involved. Given that he has said he even sees economic sanctions as an act of war, he has given a clear warning.

SaltedEggplant · 20/03/2022 11:48

I didn't find it sensational, quite balanced and informative but surely the name gave it away, both of you should have not watched it or switched it over if it made you terrified.

He wasn't right though, modern wars are still fought in a conventional way with weapons and a large amount of people dying, propoganda etc has also been around forever it's just more in your face and accessible now with the Internet. The ongoing wars in the world are much the same as the past, we just see a lot more of it now is the only difference really.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/03/2022 12:16

the difference is 24 hour media coverage
social media

there is propaganda but there always has been

latetothefisting · 20/03/2022 12:28

@TheRealistBub

Surely you knew from the title what the content was likely to be. Be more careful what you watch if you’re both so sensitive. I found it interesting and balanced

This with fucking massive bells on

Agree! I hadn't even heard of the program before reading this thread so it would have been very easy just to have NOT watched it! How much babying should a population be subjected to? Children your daughter's age are being killed or leaving their homes in Ukraine, and you don't want the UK to have the option (it wasn't as if it was required viewing!) of access to any potentially distressing subjects? What's next? Nothing upsetting on the news at all?
whitewashing · 20/03/2022 12:46

Just watching it on Channel four now…why didn’t you switch it off?

SpikyJugs · 20/03/2022 22:00

Ive just watched it - it's factual reporting, some opinion, some historical interest. It was interesting - and no more terrifying than what is actually happening at the moment.

There's nothing sensationalist about it - they discuss what nuclear war would look like in an honest and factual way. Hiding from these facts is folly.

SmellyOldOwls · 20/03/2022 22:16

I don't believe OP actually watched it. It was a good programme and actually quite reassuring. Why should it be on before the watershed - the news is and it's terrifying.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/03/2022 06:30

no,
i have now watched it,
not scaremongering
just need batteries
