Admittedly it must be at least twenty years since I last tasted ice cream so my tastes will likely be rather dated. As a youngster, I used to like the Lyons Napoli cornets with different fruit and other flavours. I liked strawberry the best, then orange then mint choc chip. Cornish ice cream was also quite popular but I might find it too rich now. Haunted House ice cream lollipops were a good compromise; better than bland Mr Men lollies but not as good as a Mivvi or Orange Maid.

Does anyone really like ice cream made with lumps of cookie dough ? It sounds grossAngry.

The tart lemon ice you could by from ice cream shops in the past. Different to the sweet lemon ice today.

It’s Carte D’Or and it is their coffee ice cream. It has coffee beans as a crunchy extra and I love it. So much so that I had to stop ordering it as I couldn’t stop eating it.

Ben and jerrys Netflix and chilled. Peanut butter ice cream with pretzels and chocolate brownie bits.

Ben and Jerrys cherry Garcia. X

isthatanotherbastardgrey · 19/03/2022 22:46

Haagen Daaz Pralines and Cream.

I do mourn Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia regularly though.

Pistachio or raspberry ripple in old fashioned ice cream made in farms/local dairies etc.
Don't really have a favourite shop bought, but used to like Funny Feet by Walls, co-op do some nice flavours in their Finest range.
I can't believe you've not had ice cream for twenty years! Not even a scoop of vanilla on a pudding.

@WellTidy

If you’re ever in Swansea, Joe’s ice cream (from their ice cream parlour, not from freezers in shops) is fab.
Agree... Fresh JOE'S is 100% the best ice cream from mumbles or St Helens ice cream parlours in Swansea. Love this stuff!!!
Wordlewobble · 19/03/2022 22:59

Blackcurrant and liquorice.

Peanut ice cream.

Coconut ice cream.

DockOTheBay · 19/03/2022 23:05

I love hazelnut gelato. Lidl do a pretty great version during their "italiamo " week so I stocked up!

I also like the Ben and Jerrys Vermontster which is maple and pecan but haven't seen it for a long time.

Goldrill · 19/03/2022 23:09

English Lakes is FANTASTIC! Thunder and lightning (caramel, choc, loads of loveliness). Blackcurrant and cream. Death by chocolate.

Awesome in its wonderfulness.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 19/03/2022 23:15

There’s a gelato shop locally, and their pistachio is wonderful, as is the salted caramel.

I am having to give up milk though, so I’m going to see what their sorbets are like next time I visit.

timtam23 · 19/03/2022 23:15

Ben & Jerry's minter wonderland (mint choc chip)
Cream o' Galloway strawberry, in fact all Cream o' Galloway flavours are wonderful
My favourite ever ice cream is New Zealand Natural macadamia supreme - used to have this when I lived in Australia

ouch321 · 19/03/2022 23:21

Why are you asking for recommendations if you don't eat it?

For others on the thread Lidl's Hazelnut ice cream in the round tub is the nearest I can get to pistachio. Waitrose does pistachio but it's not near me.

Bellusaurus · 19/03/2022 23:23

Brown soda bread ice-cream - do Butler's still do it?

BridgesofMadisonfan · 19/03/2022 23:38

@GuyFawkesDay

B&J's Minter Wonderland.

They only make it at Christmas, the bastards!

I saw that in farmfoods this week.
IncyWincyGrownUp · 19/03/2022 23:47

Minter Wonderland is a festive gem. I love that it’s little chunks of dark chocolate, and the mint is fresh as fuck.

Does anyone know if those lactase tablets work? Asking for somebody who shouldn’t have joined this thread! :o

JuteWeaver · 19/03/2022 23:50

Baskin Robins do one called something like Rainbow Sherbet and I love it. Very sweet. But I love plain old chocolate or vanilla with chocolate sauce. I don't like the Hagen Daaz/Ben & Jerry's type ice creams much, though.

CounsellorTroi · 19/03/2022 23:55

Mint choc chip,

ODFOx · 19/03/2022 23:58

Mackies unflavoured for me please.
It goes with everything, and everything goes with it.

ODFOx · 20/03/2022 00:00

Or fresh gelato! yum!

Silkierabbit · 20/03/2022 05:50

My favourite is when you go to Italy and they have a huge range of lovely ice creams made fresh, love the nut one and stracciatella. Probably just as well I don't live there or would be eating it all day.

Best one from supermarket for me is Kelly's clotted cream. Like Haagen Daaz praline. Sometimes like a rum and raisin. Sometimes sorbet can be good if want something a bit lighter esp in summer.

Can't stand cookie dough ice cream and don't like Ben & Jerry's though kids some of them.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 20/03/2022 07:04

Tutti frutti ice cream is the best but I haven’t seen any for some years now 😢
Definitely Italian gelato is vastly superior to anything made by anyone else.

WildRosie · 20/03/2022 07:36

I remember seeing pistachio ice cream in French supermarkets in the 1980s. I didn't know what pistachio was but its weird green colour wasn't very appealing!

By the way, I wasn't asking for recommendations. I'm just interested to see what the ice cream scene is like in the 21st century. It's certainly changed a lot.

There's a ice cream company in Herefordshire called Just Rachel that sells Damson and Sloe Gin ice cream. It's tart, creamy and delicious.

nevertoooldforindie · 20/03/2022 08:46

English lakes. Double nursery or blackcurrant and cream.

More budget the Lidl Scottish one in a blue tub.
