Admittedly it must be at least twenty years since I last tasted ice cream so my tastes will likely be rather dated. As a youngster, I used to like the Lyons Napoli cornets with different fruit and other flavours. I liked strawberry the best, then orange then mint choc chip. Cornish ice cream was also quite popular but I might find it too rich now. Haunted House ice cream lollipops were a good compromise; better than bland Mr Men lollies but not as good as a Mivvi or Orange Maid.

Does anyone really like ice cream made with lumps of cookie dough ? It sounds grossAngry.

Mackies' Vanilla is my favourite over here, and I'm also fond of their Honeycomb ice cream.

But my favourite is Deep South Boysenberry ice cream in New Zealand. Creamy, deliciously fruity, the best ice cream I've had.

Liquorice and blackcurrant

Only a few smaller suppliers make it, and the place I used to buy from has closed, unfortunately

B&J's Minter Wonderland.

They only make it at Christmas, the bastards!

There was this wonderful place in Italy which took ice cream to another level. In terms of UK options, Boho Gelato in Brighton is adventurous ( sometimes a bit too much!)
I like Grom ice cream ( Sicilian cassata) but there aren’t many of them in the UK.

A lot of shops locally make their own ice cream and I probably wouldn't buy walls or nestle with the exception of Ben and Jerrys as a treat. Some of the Cornish brands are very good, Callestick and Roskilliies.
Ooh, Roskillys! We love their ice cream parlour outside St Keverne where you can get various gorgeous flavours, and with a good dollop of clotted cream on top, if you like. I always like. (The breakfasts are nice too.)

There was a dairy farm pop up outside the O2 in Greenwich a few years ago ( not sure if it is still there). Their ice cream was divine.

BeaLola · 19/03/2022 19:32

They rotate ! Carte D'or Mint Chop Chip,
Coffee
Raspberry ripple
Rum & raisin
Strawberry
Honeycom
Good quality vanilla or clotted cream
Etc etc !

I'm not a chocolate ice cream lover

It's hard to find Rum & Raisin where we live - M&S used to have a lovely one but seemed to have stopped it

I may have to start making sone as decent coffee ice cream is hard to find as well

SquirrelG · 19/03/2022 19:34

I've tried many different kinds of expensive ice creams, and without exception have always been disappointed. I don't live in the UK, but good old Tip Top Hokey Pokey ice-cream (in NZ) beats the fancy stuff hands down. It's just so creamy and yum.

Mindtheears · 19/03/2022 19:34

Cream o’Galloway banoffee pie
Alandas ice cream from their shops in North Berwick & Edinburgh is very good

We have award winning Yummy Yorkshire on our doorstep, but if I am at the theatre I love a Maltesers ice cream. On the rare occasion I am out and about a Feast goes down well.
BiscuitLover3678 · 19/03/2022 19:35

I can’t get over the fact you haven’t tried ice cream in over 20 years.

Why? You only have one life!

SnowWhiteLobelia · 19/03/2022 19:37

Rum and raison.

Licorice ice cream that is really common in Australia. I tried it becuase it looked so odd, but loved it.

msssm · 19/03/2022 19:39

Haagen Dazs Belgian chocolate. Really rich chocolate ice cream with a really generous amount of dark chocolate flakes mixed through. It is heavenly.

There are times when I really, really need hokey pokey ice cream. Sad Mackies' honeycomb almost hits the spot.

Hopefully we'll make it home to NZ in January and then I can pig out. Grin

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 19/03/2022 19:43

Mary’s Milk Bar in Edinburgh does the best ice cream I’ve ever had. Their Fried Bananas In Butter and Tea And Jam flavours are TDF.

Juancornetto · 19/03/2022 19:43

Kelly's blackcurrant ice cream is the best ice cream ever. Takes me right back to my childhood Smile I know you said that Cornish Ice cream is too rich (wrong diddly wrong Grin) but with blackcurrant the sharpness cuts through the creaminess.

Mossstitch · 19/03/2022 19:46

I've done extensive research🍦🍨 and outside of Italy Haagen Dazs vanilla is the best, closely followed by their cookies and cream or pralines😋

Blabla81 · 19/03/2022 19:48

Kelly’s Rum and raisin for me.

mrsfeatherbottom · 19/03/2022 19:58

Maud's choccie bear (I think Maud's in only in NI)

FeelMyBicep · 19/03/2022 19:58

Love Mackies but Ben & Jerrys hazelnut sundae is worth every penny Smile

BarbaraofSeville · 19/03/2022 19:59

We don't usually have ice cream at home but we do have an amazing farm locally that makes it's own ice cream. It's so much of a destination that we only go if we're off in the week as the queues at the weekend on nice days are immense.

They have hokey pokey if you're anywhere near Tong near Bradford @GrouchyKiwi.

rosegoldwatcher · 19/03/2022 20:01

As a child the best icy treat was a pair of wafers around two scoops of Mr Seller's home made vanilla - complete with ice crystals. He ran the corner shop and was a terrible curmudgeon but his ice cream was sublime.

My favourite from the supermarket freezer is definitely Hagen Daaz Pralines and Cream but the best ice cream I have eaten was Zabaglione from a gelataria in Rome. (Walls/Ben & Jerry/Hagen Daaz please start making zabaglione ice cream?!)

Newnormal99 · 19/03/2022 20:02

I have discovered Hackney gelato - millionaires shortbread is amazing. Also mince pie ice cream which is way nicer than it sounds.

My daughter said the mango sorbet was like eating a mango.

Rosebuud · 19/03/2022 20:03

Honeycomb, whenever I can find it, I ve also made it once, made my own honeycomb and mixed it in with vanilla ice cream, it sort of melds with the ice cream so the whole thing tastes like honey comb,

Phish food also. But I can’t buy it or I’d eat the whole tub,

WellTidy · 19/03/2022 20:03

If you’re ever in Swansea, Joe’s ice cream (from their ice cream parlour, not from freezers in shops) is fab.
