Tandoori chicken thighs, rice and salad

Spicy veggie kebabs in wraps

Jacket potatoes- bacon/sour cream/spring onion

Pizza and salad

....so far!

Cleothecat75 · 20/03/2022 20:01

This week isn’t great for meal planning (covid has struck), but I felt after reading everyone else’s responses I should add ours in fairness.
Sunday - stew,
Monday chicken burgers and wedges
Tuesday Mac and cheese
Wednesday salmon fish cakes
Thursday turkey meatballs and spaghetti
Friday whatever you like from the freezer
Saturday chicken and mushroom pie

Why have I never thought to make @maddiemookins16mum leftovers pie? That is going on the menu for next week. Such a good idea and So simple! I feel silly for never thinking of turning leftovers in to a pie! (My grandmother is likely tutting at me from heaven for not listening to her years ago).

bluechameleon · 20/03/2022 20:03

Tonight we had lasagne (beef or vegetable).
Monday: kefte and eggs (beef or mushroom meatballs), Moroccan carrots, flatbread.
Tuesday: Jamaican black eyed bean curry, jerk chicken/cauliflower, rice and peas.
Wednesday: baked sea bream, roast fennel with peas, some kind of potatoes, roast carrots.
Thursday: Afghan carrot stew, borani (stuffed potato bread), cabbage.
Friday: pizza, garlic bread, salad.
I also have sausages and breaded chicken for nights the DC won't like the main meal.

We keep getting carrots in our veg box so I'm trying to use them up.

We had this tonight with rice and oh my, it was one of the nicest things I've ever eaten
www.kitchensanctuary.com/korean-fried-chicken/
Just easy midweek stuff as we're both busy with work so a fish katsu curry, chicken massaman, duck stirfry, IKEA meatballs in tomato sauce with pasta. We're eating out Friday and Saturday so not had to do those days this week.

MotherWol · 20/03/2022 21:19

Bit of an odd week as DH is away and my mum’s staying for 3 nights, so I’ll probably just do a big batch of grains and have salads with a different protein each night. Bit stuck on what to do for the kids though as DD1 is a very fussy eater who only really eats beige things.

WalkingOnSonshine · 20/03/2022 21:52

I tend to plan for 6 nights, and then end up doing something on toast/cereal or a takeaway one night, rather than get food in and waste it.

I’ve significantly cut down on our meat intake although this week is meat heavy, we normally aim for 2-3 nights with meat. DC is 14 months and will eat all of the below.

This week:
Courgette, spinach and pesto lasagne
Chicken Caesar salad with garlic bread
Scampi, wedges and peas
Gammon roast dinner
Gammon gratin

Lunch will be soup, flatbread and hummus or gammon salad sandwiches.

Next week is looking likely to be:
Hulk mac and cheese x2
Tofu Pad Thai
Bbq chicken with salads
Veggie meatballs and pasta
Toad in the hole with veg

Smokeahontas · 20/03/2022 22:03

@KnottyKnitting I love my air fryer too!

Have to say I didn’t expect so many veggie options on this but it’s definitely given me some things to try.

It is amazing to me to see so many meals that centre meat and fish! Every single day!
I thought we were supposed to be cutting back on meat and fish consumption? It's better for our health and for our purse to eat less meat and fish.

I could not eat meat or fish every day. I eat it 3 times a week, max. How can people afford it?

Smokeahontas · 22/03/2022 10:10

@elisenbrunnen Just because you couldn’t eat it more than 3 times a week doesn’t mean others can’t. With respect, I think most people on here are grown adults so can consume what they want, when they want.

Some of the dishes e.g. fishcakes, chicken noodle soup, lasagne etc. might contain very little actual fish/meat.

I think most people seem to be making heroic efforts to come up with interesting meals within their budget, day in day out - I no longer have to do this, thank goodness, my family have grown and gone!

I'd suggest that using veg & pulses does this a lot cheaper! I can't afford to eat meat and fish every single day. It's not that I don't want to (although I don't, actually) but pulses and veg are a lot cheaper.

The 'eat less meat/fish' advice has been around for years. Lots of healthy, interesting, appealing and cheap meals out there. It doesn't have to be a plate of vegetables.

My meal week;

Sunday - Beef stew, bulked up with lentils. (350g beef was plenty for 3) Served with mash and veg. Muffins and a sponge pudding for pudding.
Monday - Pea soup (bulk up with potatoes/leftover blitzed veg, eat with crusty bread&butter)
Tues - I work til 9pm so will be egg/beans/cheese/mushrooms on toast or omelette, something dc can make themselves. There are homemade muffins left from sunday.
Wed - mackerel with salad & new pots
Thurs - probably a lentil or potato/veg curry or chilli.
Friday - Pasta with bacon/tomatoes/mushrooms
Saturday felafel with flatbreads, hummus and salad.
Sunday - as we ate meat last sunday, will be shepherdess pie (lentils) or lentil 'meatloaf' or 'meatballs'.

I know that you are all 'grown adults' OP, but with all the thread about fuel/electricity/gas/food prices going up, I was surprised to see so many of you still centering the most expensive part of the plate. It's sad.

Longdistance · 22/03/2022 11:53

We start off with a roast joint. There’s enough left for another meal like a stir fry or ham, egg and chips.
Chilli, there’s tonnes left for jacket potatoes
Lasagna
Homemade bread and picky bits.
Chicken curry
We usually get a take away on a Friday.

Smokeahontas · 22/03/2022 19:54

@elisenbrunnen Right ok.

OP posts:
WalkingOnSonshine · 22/03/2022 22:16

I don’t understand how the fact that I/others can afford and therefore eat meat is sad.

elisenbrunnen · 23/03/2022 09:01

I don't know why you are being so defensive, OP. The advice to eat less meat and more veg is from the health authority, not me! And has been advised for years. What do you want me to say? 'Great thread, OP'? Hmm

I love food, I love cooking, so I came on this thread looking for possible inspiration. And it surprised me to see so many saying that their entire weekly meal plan included meat or fish at every dinner!

ok if you can afford it - but then, there are endless threads on here bemoaning the rise in food/fuel/electricity prices, and asking for tips on how to 'cut back'. Well, eating more pulses and veg is a very easy, healthy and tasty way to cut back a lot on your food bills!

I can't afford meat or fish more than 3 times a week. We still eat well

  • and healthily.
Surely everyone should be aiming at Health, these days? And economy? Why so snarky then?
SFisnotsimple · 23/03/2022 09:38

I think once the DC leave home esp the super carnivorous 18 yr old DS, we will eat no meat.

It's very hard - in my family certainly - to find meals everyone likes, without the need for multiple adaptations which I've always refused to do.

And one of my parenting rules has always been to try to feed my children healthily and with food they will enjoy, having gagged on many foods I was force fed as a child and having no desire to repeat this with my own children.

It's very narrow minded to swan into a thread, making sweeping judgements about peoples food choices. As with everything online, what do you know about peoples circumstances? It's not only about healthy eating and finances, life is rarely that simple.

Smokeahontas · 01/04/2022 10:20

I didn’t remember to resurrect this last week, but I did today! So same question, what’s on your meal planning for next week?

I have an outline - going to make a big pot of soup on Sunday for lunches, I think maybe a tomato & red pepper.

Trying to make one curry a week, usually on a Sunday too as I have more free time.

A pasta dish.

OP posts:
Lottie4 · 01/04/2022 10:25

Haven't got a meal plan, but I know we're having tuna pasta bake, pasta with mushrooms, kale, cream and parmesan or cheddar cheese and toad in the hole as just bought some very cheap veggie sausages. I'll probably do a veggie chilli later in the week, and whatever beans are left (don't use them all) into a pasta meal another day.

mbosnz · 01/04/2022 12:33
