Some of the dishes e.g. fishcakes, chicken noodle soup, lasagne etc. might contain very little actual fish/meat.
I think most people seem to be making heroic efforts to come up with interesting meals within their budget, day in day out
I'd suggest that using veg & pulses does this a lot cheaper! I can't afford to eat meat and fish every single day. It's not that I don't want to (although I don't, actually) but pulses and veg are a lot cheaper.
The 'eat less meat/fish' advice has been around for years. Lots of healthy, interesting, appealing and cheap meals out there. It doesn't have to be a plate of vegetables.
My meal week;
Sunday - Beef stew, bulked up with lentils. (350g beef was plenty for 3) Served with mash and veg. Muffins and a sponge pudding for pudding.
Monday - Pea soup (bulk up with potatoes/leftover blitzed veg, eat with crusty bread&butter)
Tues - I work til 9pm so will be egg/beans/cheese/mushrooms on toast or omelette, something dc can make themselves. There are homemade muffins left from sunday.
Wed - mackerel with salad & new pots
Thurs - probably a lentil or potato/veg curry or chilli.
Friday - Pasta with bacon/tomatoes/mushrooms
Saturday felafel with flatbreads, hummus and salad.
Sunday - as we ate meat last sunday, will be shepherdess pie (lentils) or lentil 'meatloaf' or 'meatballs'.
I know that you are all 'grown adults' OP, but with all the thread about fuel/electricity/gas/food prices going up, I was surprised to see so many of you still centering the most expensive part of the plate. It's sad.
