Men calling me hun

ImFree2doasiwant · 19/03/2022 07:10

It really puts me off! I've ended up back in touch with a couple of men I already knew. 1 was an ex. Messaging away quite happily, then all of a sudden, I etc "ok hun" or similar. I'm not really up for a relationship so it's not an issue at thiscstage, but if I was looking fo a ekationship, I'd really struggle with the "hun"

Is that ridiculous? It's never women who do it. Is it just them trying to use a term of endearment ??

Would anyone else be totally put off by this? I feel like if everything else was great, it would it would a deal breaker which is ridiculous!

Women use hun all the time, I would say more than men 🤣

NightmareSlashDelightful · 19/03/2022 10:43

I wonder if what’s rubbing the wrong way here is the endearment term used by someone you used to be in a relationship with, and aren’t any more, but who you want to redraw a slightly different boundary with. It maybe feels like you’re being pulled back into that relationship space, perhaps?

Hun as an endearment or diminutive I don’t necessarily have an issue with personally, although it’s not a word I can pull off myself! I do know lots of people who say it though, of both sexes.

ImFree2doasiwant · 19/03/2022 10:46

@AHungryCaterpillar so I've heard, but none if the ones i know. Or at least not to me

@NightmareSlashDelightful only 1 of them is an ex. The other is someone I know, although not really well (otherwise he wouldn't have saud hun to me Grin)

Oh sorry I misread your op! Blush

ImFree2doasiwant · 19/03/2022 11:32

@NightmareSlashDelightful if it was just him that would make sense. He was fond of "babe" years ago. Hmm

I’m glad I found this thread:

Im seeing someone and he called me hun. I’ve never known a straight guy call me a female hun before.

Please say I’m not the only one that thinks this is weird

ImFree2doasiwant · 23/03/2022 21:14

@bellex well no, I really dislike it but it seems to be a thread not many have read or replied to.

Has it put you off?

PaperTyger · 23/03/2022 21:29

I can't stand anyone calling me Hun.

RolyPoly12 · 23/03/2022 21:29

So cringe!

Abit if I’m honest

MiniDaffodils · 23/03/2022 23:26

I find it endearing. Same as “Luv” or “Darling”. From both sexes.

Felix125 · 24/03/2022 00:09

Is it a regional thing?

Its used quite a lot in the North by both men & women to each other - whether you know each other or not.

Its a bit like the word 'pet' in the Newcastle & Durham regions

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 24/03/2022 00:16

"Please don't call me hun. It puts my teeth on edge"

liveforsummer · 24/03/2022 07:23

It wouldn't put me off, no. It's quite regional. On other parts of the coils try it's duck or doll or babe and ime isn't gender exclusive. Said just as commonly, if not more so by women than men

x2boys · 24/03/2022 09:14

Lots of women use Hun or Babe
Less so men ,in my experience.

Jarstastic · 24/03/2022 10:21

It’s women for me too. So annoying.

I’d rather be called lover by random people in the West Country.

LaraDeSalle · 24/03/2022 10:48

I have the exact opposite on Facebook. Women calling me hun, never men.

It’s awful.

Justanotherobserver · 24/03/2022 10:56

It would annoy me if someone called me that all the time, but as an occasional it wouldn't be too awful.

An older man called me 'Me duck' yesterday and that made me smile. Another older man I know sometimes greets me with 'Dear girl!' and that makes me smile too. He's 86 and I'm 60 btw Grin

ImFree2doasiwant · 24/03/2022 12:28

@Bellex I think I'd have to finish with him. I dobtknow what itis, just can't stand it!
