Use of racist words.

Recently I attended a regulated event for young people. During the course of this, one of the young people was called a racist word by another young person. I want to take this further by reporting it to the governing body however another adult who was with me on the day doesn't believe it was racist as the young person it was said to is not of that paticular race and it's not for us to decide if it's racist. They think I should just leave it.

I think it's still appropriate to take it further as the word is most definitely a racist slur, the person who said it didn't know the race of the person they said it to and there's really no place for that language to be used anywhere. It's disgusting.

There were other issues at this event where horrible language was used but by adults and I would like to just include it all in my compaint but the other adult is adamant that I should not include the incident involving the young people.

Any views on this or advice much appreciated.

How did you deal with it at the time? Surely that’s the way to deal with it by taking the person to task after they said it.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, it wasnt reported to us until afterwards.

I did challenge the adults about what they were saying as they were standing near me and I heard them say it.

I think that perhaps yes, you should mention it to the organising body. Leave the individuals concerned out of it at first, and see what response you get. You can always go into more detail later.
