😡Why are M&S still operating in Russia?!!

Just that. Majority of other high profile businesses have withdrawn. So much for the Great British family brand of M&S🤷🏼‍♀️….happy to let children be bombed in Ukraine as long as they don’t lose any cash. FFS.

I did not know this, has there been any kind of statement from them at all? I do not know much about what their operations are in Russia. If you could post more information I would be happy to read it.

FelicityBeedle · 18/03/2022 06:22

Because legally they can’t withdraw. The M&S shops in Russia are all franchises; the British brand has no control over them

PAFMO · 18/03/2022 06:23

Because the M&S Russia operation isn't run by M&S but by a Turkish conglomerate who bought the rights to the name and products some years ago. M&S have literally nothing to do with it.

I read something about this, it's to do with them being franchises and there not being grounds to terminate the agreement I think.

PAFMO · 18/03/2022 06:24

It's kind of like asking Jo Malone why she's still selling candles there. In short, she isn't.

Thanks to those who clarified. This is why it is a risk for businesses to give away control over their brand - when the brand gets associated with the wrong thing it taints the core business.

Since WWII, the US has invaded pretty much the entirety of Asia (Far East and Middle East) and parts of Africa. This includes slaughtering innocent people and bombing their homes. Most recently, Biden pulled the US out of Iraq without much warning. Have we imposed sanctions on the USA? Or are their actions okay because they killed and raped “exotic” looking people?

Usingit · 18/03/2022 06:47

Maybe read a bit about it before you post crap, its quite simple to find out that it's for legal reasons.

Is there much call for Per Una in NYC?

Whilst agreeing fundamentally with what you say, you might be better off posting on one of the more heavyweight geopolitics threads.
