CCTV on private property - do you put up signs?

I’m not in the UK so not looking for the legal take, more a case of the pros and cons.

I recently bought a house that has a lot of security. The former owner was a well-known person and it was their family home so there’s CCTV all around the property, but no signs. The cameras cover the full perimeter plus there’s extras on the front and back doors, the electric gates, and on the garage.

Now that I’ve moved in, I’ve kept the cameras but wondering if I should put up a sign to ward off potential burglars?

Apart from fear of the house or car being robbed, I have an unusual dog that is normally never out unsupervised but I’d like her to be able to wander around the garden as freely as possible (garden is fully secure with a radio fence as well as physical fences/walls/hedges).
I’m worried that someone would see her in the garden, scale the front gate or wall and grab her.

Is there a downside to putting signs up? The previous owner also had dogs and I’m thinking that, if he didn’t have signs, there’s a reason for it?

Hopeful bump.

What's the local police advice?

I would think that your security arrangements sound considerably more secure than the majority of other people’s. I wouldn’t bother with signs because anyone can put signs up, and I wouldn’t worry about someone scaling your wall/fence to steal your dog. I assume the walls/fences are pretty high.

They wouldn’t give any advice outside of the legislative requirements, which I fell within anyway.

They said it’s a matter of personal preference.

Strangely, while the gate is high in the middle, the design of it would means it wouldn’t be that hard for someone to jump over it along the side if they were fairly fit.

My dog, lovely as she is, is an absolute idiot and would likely jump halfway up the wall to say hello to a dog-napper Grin. She’s also huge but not a breed that would be a deterrent.

I hadn’t realized there was so much security until we moved in and I think it’s making me a bit paranoid. There’s a control room that’s entirely taken up with monitors and recording equipment.

I don’t really have need for an OTT security system over and above what most people would have but, now that I know it’s there, I keep wondering what the former owner knew that we didn’t.

Perhaps because he was well known he stepped up the security?

I have cameras and I do have a CCTV sign on my back gate as an extra deterrent hopefully

We have a cctv sign at the front and also on the rear gates.
I think it's to do with GDPR and using recordings as evidence In prosecution.
I would put signs up.

We have small signs at the front and side of the property, the areas that are accessible from the road. It's to comply with GDPR. That said, loads of people have ring doorbells these days and I don't see signs up for those.

If the security at your house is making you feel uncomfortable then maybe you should reduce it. Also, although your worries about your dog being stolen are realistic these days, having signs up or not having signs up isn't going to make the slightest difference to someone that wants to steal your dog.
