Gosh. I wonder what's going on

OP posts:

bbc have just confirmed 800 redundant on news channel too & the P & O has made millions pound loss so the parent company can no longer sustain this hence the cut
Still stinks the way its been done

ThatsNotMyGolem · 17/03/2022 13:27

There's nothing lower than scab labour.

crackofdoom · 17/03/2022 13:27

I wonder if the majority of truck drivers/ freight companies will sympathise with the seafarers and boycott P&O? So easy just to cross with competitors on most of their routes. If so, they're sunk (see what I did there? 😆)

So 800 made redundant and replaced by cheaper agency staff. I do t know how they can be made redundant if the jobs are still there

Wont be using them anytime soon

Kukdoos · 17/03/2022 13:29

Bunch of cunts.

ravenmum · 17/03/2022 13:30

The Guardian quotes Hull's MP Karl Turner as saying “utterly deplorable predatory practice taking full advantage of the gap in the legislation” - what gap is it?

QforCucumber · 17/03/2022 13:32

@ThatsNotMyGolem while I agree, would the agency staff have been told the situation? or just been told there's a job here for you on this date for this length of time? I'd have no idea when I was temping whether this situation would be the case until I turned up for the job.

Maybe the shareholders could have just had a few less millions and not fired all their staff? They clearly think it will become a viable business again with travel restrictions lifted, or they wouldn’t be replacing the staff with cheaper labour.

Myee · 17/03/2022 13:32

800 crew members being made redundant. Awful for them.

crackofdoom · 17/03/2022 13:33

Founded in 1837, and I wouldn't give it another year. Both cruel and stupid.

Exactly. Making people redundant involves a process, you can't just get rid of them.
Carpediem15 · 17/03/2022 13:37

Crew on P & O ferry at Liverpool have locked themselves on the ship.
North West News.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 17/03/2022 13:37

What loophole ? The work is still there . Surely they have to pay redundancy plus more in lieu of notice ? Despicable!

Carpediem15 · 17/03/2022 13:38

Norbay at Gladstone Dock Liverpool - security have now boarded the ship.

WilsonMilson · 17/03/2022 13:41

I mean, just wtf?! It’s deplorable from P&O. Just worked out that we spend over £2k a year sailing with them. Will be on Stena in future.

I did something on Twitter (can’t remember the source sorry) that said they were giving enhanced redundancy packages to staff to account for lack of notice. I’m not a lawyer so no idea on the legalities around the redundancies themselves.
MrsMinge · 17/03/2022 13:42

@BambinaJAS

Could be a "fire and rehire" type plan.
and pay them less than they are worth? You don't fuck with safety on the sea. There is not alot around to save you out in the channel if something happens I'd be very interested to see what qualifications and experience the agency staff have before I got on a ferry again
crackofdoom · 17/03/2022 13:42

Carpediem Wow, lucky for P&O that striking mariners in the middle of Liverpool are unlikely to command widespread public support....Bwahahahaha 😆

ItsSnowJokes · 17/03/2022 13:43

@RussianSpy101

They must’ve lost a fortune recently. We should’ve cruised with them in February 2022 and couldn’t as we have children and they aren’t allowing anyone unvaccinated on board. We booked a suite and, knowing what we paid, if they’ve lost the majority of their suite bookings across all their ships that’s a huge loss.
P&O Cruises are a totally separate company and owned by Carnival Cruises. They have nothing to do with this.
Toddlerteaplease · 17/03/2022 13:43

@needingpeace

Wouldn’t it be amazing if it was to go and get the refugees.
Not really, people have booked to trac with them and freight needs to get to its destination.
Figgygal · 17/03/2022 13:44

Wow no idea what the loophole is but p&o have fucked this right up.

I think P&O Cruises need to rebrand to separate themselves from this asap!!!

Myee · 17/03/2022 13:51

Spasiba,

You protest too much.
