Why not cheaper to instal solar on the ground?!

Hi all, like most of the Country I’ve been thinking more about getting some solar panels….don’t really want to mess with our Victorian roof so was considering other options. Was thinking of putting solar on the ground (we do have the space)….why is it not cheaper to install this way - prices are apparently the same🤷🏼‍♀️. Please can anyone knowledgable enlighten me?

I don't know but solar 'farms' near me are on the ground. I can't imagine why it would be more expensive.

Presumably because whilst you don’t need scaffolding to be put up you do instead need frames for the panels to live on permanently and you will also need more cabling etc to get the power to your house. Most of them also link into your broadband too and the cabling there would be an additional cost ( or you’d need a WiFi booster etc)

Different kinds of mounts have to be constructed for ground-level solar. It doesn't just attach to a rack in the way a roof-mounted system does. It needs extra support.

Ok, thank you - just assumed it would be a similar rack system to the roof mounted ones and you could just stick ‘em in - the (very) basic research I did said that they were ‘easy’ to erect requiring no ground prep (other than for cabling).

Great idea though, if you have the space.
