Is it impossible to get hold of a GP appointment now?

Day 3 of trying to speak to,someone medical.
Phoned GP at 8.00 on the dot. Engaged the first few times.
When I got through I was caller number 10! Hooray, this a low number .

But when I got through to a human being, no more slots left this morning and this is just for a callback. That's all they offer. And that is us lay from a nurse.

I've got a menopause issue and while it's not life and death, my 3 week long period is really wearing me down.

Is getting hold of a GP this hard everywhere?

Yes. We have to econsilt first. Im struggling with mental health and sleep and have been told a MONTH.

Does your surgery do an econsult? Every time I've done one I've had an appointment withing a couple of days if not same day. I find that a much better way to get an appointment now than to call up.

DH has recently closed his GP practice. There are more people wanting appointments than there are available. GP’s are leaving and not enough doctors are training to become GP’s. New house developments are built with large numbers of people moving into the area but with the same number of GP’s to look after the increased population.

It does seem to be common but I'm lucky with my surgery. They use the ask my gp service where you email in your issue and they absolutely will see you - the same day - if necessary. We've had no problems getting appointments. It should be like that everywhere.

totally impossible where I am. Ive given up and paid to access a gp online privately the last 2 occassions Ive needed a gp.
Not much point being registered with GP anymore tbh.
