Help - mosquito repellent for Mexico

We have a family wedding in Mexico at Easter, will be the first wedding DS has been to and first time we've seen US based family since 2018.

Really want this to be special, but I'm worried about the bugs. He gets bitten in England in the summer and I'm the same. I've been reading that the mozzies are pretty wild there and I really don't want to spoil it for us.

Does anything I can buy here really work in tropical places? Are the plug ins any good or a waste of money?

Something containing Deet Nothing else seems to work.
We used to get a plug in for hotel rooms too, can't remember the name I'll have a look on google, but I'm sure you can buy them there.

I've used Wilco extra strength insect repellent in the tropics. I am the Number One target for mozzies and it worked very well.

It's cheap enough (£2.50 a can) to spray all over liberally and frequently, which is the main thing. And the can is a reasonable size to carry around so you can have it with you. Although, like any repellent that works, it stinks.

The Wilco one contains good strength DEET.

Got to be something with Deet in it. Maybe something gentler for around the face (how old is your DS?).

Also take antihistimines (Piriton etc) for when he does get bitten - repellent isn't perfect.

The most effective one is called Off and you can buy it in any pharmacy or supermarket in mexico. Comes in a green spray can or an orange one. Plugins are a waste of time. I wouldnt imagine you will have as big a problem as you think though. Rainy season is the worst time for them and that starts around June (depending on where you're staying in mexico)

Incognito anti mosquito is highly effective and doesn't contain DEET, if you prefer a non DEET one.

Okay, so Wilcos to get me there and Off whilst I'm there.

I suspect the biggest risk is my own imagination. Feel much better now I have a plan - thanks all!

@amicissimma - just back from the Amazon, armed with the Wilco's deet. It was fantastic! Thanks so much for the recommendation - people around us were getting bitten a fair bit so it is clearly good stuff Flowers
