Can I do this with interest badges for GGing?

Brownies for anyone who knows.

Basically doing an interest badge but looking through the book can see that the badge we’re doing at the moment some the evidence can be used for other badges we’ll do in future.

Is that allowed? Can I just send off the same photo/video/whatever? Obviously I’ll explain to DD how it links in with both badges (I do this anyway).

For example when she was at Rainbows could she in theory of used the same evidence for Animal Lover and Recycling? Say she chose to switch the animal to tinned food when choosing food at the shop, that meets both points doesn’t it?

Or do I have to use different evidence for both?

Hopeful bump

I'm a Brownie leader and would probably not remember what evidence was used for the first badge so think it's most likely not going to be a problem.

It depends how much notice her leader takes of the evidence you’re providing.
I would say ( in my opinion ) that using the same thing for more than one badge isn’t in the spirit of what the badges are about. I see them as something for the girls to work and aim for. Not just something to be done as quickly and easily as possible. Interest badges should take some time and effort from the girls. Other people may view them differently but that’s my take on it.
I think I could get away with using the same thing for more than one badge as I don’t think her leader would remember BUT its not something I’d do. Feels a bit like cheating to me..

Sounds like our pack Grin We wouldn't bat an eye at reusing evidence for badges.

@Smartiepants79 Even if I linked them, so with the animal lover she chose the food in tins but then I also talked about how tins are recyclable and we can recycle them. We did have other evidence for both badges so I didn't use those but in theory could I do that and send off other evidence for each as well?

As long as it really covers both... then I'd give extra points for efficiency and flexible thinking!

lottiegarbanzo · 15/03/2022 20:59

You'd have to ask Brown Owl.

I wouldn't do it that way though. The point is the doing, the experience it offers, not clocking up as many badges as you can in the shortest time.

I'd have to ask who this badge-gathering activity is for? Whose project is it? Your dd, or you? It's fine to have help and discuss things of course but I think your dd needs to plan her own way through her own badges.

@lottiegarbanzo She does plan them, so we'll look through the book decide which badge then discuss the parts and she'll tell me what she wants to do.

So for the Archeology badge we sat and read each part and she'd say "I want to dig in Grandmas Garden and see what I can find" so she'd ask Ex-MIL next time she's there etc.

And is she making these cross-cutting efficiency plans you're talking about? Proposing to recycle her work? Or is that coming from you?

It just seems to be stealing part of the experience of doing the badge that she's 'already done' a part of, to me. She's missing out on independently planning something new.

LittleOwl153 · 15/03/2022 21:12

I think if effort is made towards both badge elements then I don't see any reason why not. I don't currently have a Brownie book to hand to see what the specifics are but if for example:
Badge 1 required a physical activity training plan to be written/followed
Badge 2 required a 1000m swim

If her activity programme is around building stamina in swimming and her target is to swim 1000m I would see it as contributing to both when she achieves the swim.

If however

Badge 1 says bake a cake
Badge 2 says bake a sweet treat

Then I would expect 2 dishes even if they were both cakes....

I'm not sure my examples are greatly illustrative but I hope get the point across.

lottiegarbanzo · 15/03/2022 21:12

Though I think my question is answered by your title; 'Can I do this?' not 'can my dd do this?'.

@lottiegarbanzo She would with prompting but she's only 7, it's only occasionally I notice these links, I don't always do it so I just won't if it's going to cause issues or make them think its not her work.
