Is there a cold going round that isn't COVID?

Just that really. Neg tests, but still full of cough, phlegm and lost my voice.

Yes indeedy. I just had a cold identical to the covid I had in October (delta?). Negative LFTs aplenty.

Auntieobem · 15/03/2022 19:01

Yes. Loads of folk off work with it here. Dd off school last week and I'm feeling like shite just now. All negative for covid.

lookingforjobinspiration · 15/03/2022 19:02

Yes - it's horrendous. A week and counting!!

Absolutely

ShowOfHands · 15/03/2022 19:03

Yes of course. It's March. Other cold viruses are out there.

Also chicken pox, hfm and noro are rife here.

Nidan2Sandan · 15/03/2022 19:03

Yes, there are ALWAYS colds going round. They didnt go extinct with the introduction of covid.

marqueses · 15/03/2022 19:03

There's been a cold going round that isn't covid since covid became a thing Grin

Sadly the common cold wasn't killed off by the pandemic Smile

GizmoIsSoFluffy · 15/03/2022 19:04

Thank god, thought I was going mad and testing wrong. Surrounded by COVID at work, but I'm neg. Feel awful though.

If there is, I've got it. I've tested negative for Covid twice, but feel almost as rough as when I had it. Haven't had a cold like this for years.

Fifthtimelucky · 15/03/2022 19:05

I imagine there are lots of colds going round now people are mixing more normally.

I have one. It feels like a normal cold to me and I have done two LFTs, both of which have been negative.

Clarabe1 · 15/03/2022 19:06

Yes! A few of us have had it at work and we all had the same thought- bloody Covid , but no it’s a cold. It’s strange, it’s almost like we have forgot other viruses exist. I used to get a cold twice a year and now I am hugely put out by getting one

MNchicken · 15/03/2022 19:07

I’m not sure, but I have had a scratchy throat, bit of a headache and very mild fatigue. Every LFT I took over 6 days has been negative. Because I log my symptoms or lack of symptoms every day with the ZOE app they invited me to take a PCR test. The home test I returned came back positive. I did another LFT on the day I received the results of the PCR test and it was still negative. Today my symptoms have cleared up but at no stage of having symptoms has any LFT indicated I’ve had covid. Im now wondering how many false negatives there might be.

Saucery · 15/03/2022 19:07

Took 3 days for my tests to turn from Negative to Positive.
But there is a cold going round too. Some research has been done that suggests the cold virus ‘locks out’ Covid from the cells, so could be a bonus?

Juniper68 · 15/03/2022 19:08

Yes I've got it. Feel a bit better today.

Xpologog · 15/03/2022 19:11

Yes and it’s horrible. Feel like my bone marrow is aching!!

Justgivemewine · 15/03/2022 19:13

Yep, there’s some real stinkers going round at the moment. I had covid at new year and am now on my second week of my 2nd knock out cold since then and am completely wiped out. I think I’ve only had one week of feeling fully well this year.
I think my immune system is doing some serious catching up after not having to do much the last 2 years.

DownWhichOfLate · 15/03/2022 19:13

If you’ve got a common cold it might be stopping you from catching covid even if a lot of your colleagues have covid: www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/health-56483445.amp

DoorLion · 15/03/2022 19:14

I’ve currently got a mega snotty nose and feel bleugh, three negative tests for Covid.
I thought it was hayfever but now it feels more like a cold.

AnyFucker · 15/03/2022 19:17

Yep. This is way worse than covid was for me.

Aching limbs, no appetite, congestion like concrete, racking cough, thick green phlegm, feel like shit

Had something similar in Nov, took me ages to shift it then got covid at NY now this. Haven’t actually felt well all winter.

GizmoIsSoFluffy · 15/03/2022 19:40

Glad to see it's not just me thats thinking this isn't very pleasant.

Wish everyone a speedy recovery, but it's just not nice.

I've had it. This is week 4 and I've just got a cough first thing and when I get tired. Sore throat for 3 weeks though! Plus the fatigue. Negative LFT and PCR tests all through.

mumwon · 15/03/2022 20:55

sinusitis & choking cough which leaves me breathless & productive ++++ 2 neg lateral flows & got a pcr test (done by medical staff at mobile car thingy to check I wasn't doing it wrong) & now on ghastly antibiotics high dosage for the next 10 days - with wonderful side effects (I can't go out into sunlight ...while I am on the blessed things)

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 15/03/2022 20:56

Of course there is. Just as colds have gone around since the dawn of time. I have one too.

AnyFucker · 15/03/2022 20:57

I have a feeling this is going to linger for some time

JenniferBarkley · 15/03/2022 21:02

Of course, loads. We've had over 30 PCRs in this house since testing began and none of us have tested positive yet.
