Posting stuff/food/bits n bobs to Canada. Help?

I've agreed to do a swap box thing of goodies with a friend in Canada, they're going to send me lots of Canadian goodies, and i'm going to do the same back with some typically english bits and bobs.

Are there any rules on what i can post over there with customs rules..etc.

If you live in Canada, what kind of british food, (mostly sweets/candy/chocolate stuff) would you like to get?

I tried to send a parcel of British sweets there a few years ago and it never made I through customs. Was sweets and toys. Was never told why, it was just returned.
