Do you cycle on A roads and feel safe

Inspired by the recently resurrected e bike thread, seriously thinking of getting one to cycle to village shop and possibly work. We live fairly rurally but to get anywhere useful would involve cycling along A roads. I’m just not sure I’m brave enough.
Obviously people do cycle to work but is it actually easier in more built up areas where traffic is heavier and moving slower ?
Anyone do this and can reassure me ?

I’ve cycle commuted in London and also do country lanes and busy a roads by where I live now. In some ways A roads are better than lanes, where drivers will overtake on bends and too close. I haven’t yet had a problem where I cycle these days (London was a different beast).

I did an adult cycling course before I started cycling again in London. It did me the world of good for confidence and teaching me some real basic skills (life saver look, hold your lane to prevent dangerous overtaking).

I personally always ride with lights, hi box and a helmet whatever the weather or time of day, which makes a huge difference to your visibility.
