Not every single day, we all need a duvet day form time to time
But just in general
?

I think it's up to each person. Its important to me to wear a full face of make up most days, perfume, smart-ish outfit, but I understand why other people have no interest in any of that.

TottersBlankly · 15/03/2022 14:33

What is the context of this argument?

Are you the fault finder?

Or the scruffy one?

Tinkerbellflowers · 15/03/2022 14:33

Yes, its good for self-esteem.

RealRaymondReddington · 15/03/2022 14:37

I think it entirely depends on what an individual considers to be 'looking your best. Clean and with clean clothes on and brushed hair is important, the rest not so much. It also massively depends on what your day to day activities are.

MermaidEyes · 15/03/2022 14:37

It's up to each individual, but I like to look nice most days, nice clothes, some makeup. If I look good I feel good, plus I love clothes so I very rarely have a duvet day.

Ff10n · 15/03/2022 14:37

Yes, I always get up, shower, wash my hair and put a bit of makeup on. Otherwise I feel grim all day.

I wouldn't say my style is particularly smart, but I wouldn't wear anything covered in stains, holes, bobbles or dog hair!

HomeHomeInTheRange · 15/03/2022 14:57

I think people should feel comfortable with themselves. I have no expectation that anyone will be ‘looking their best’ for my benefit on the bus, in Tesco etc.

I think it is important that people feel they can just ‘be’, actually.

I don’t go out in my pyjamas, and I like to have some hair product in or I look like a pudding headed monk. Beyond that: it depends on the occasion.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 15/03/2022 14:57

I’m
The inconsistent one
One day I could be looking great the next day I Habent even done my hair
So I’m trying to find some sort of motivation
To keep it up on a daily or almost daily
Basis

I enjoy make up so put it on every day whether going out of the house or not.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 15/03/2022 15:03

Homehome not for your benefit but for their benefit

For some of us, 'pudding headed monk' is looking our best. Grin

It’s not high on my list of priorities to be honest. I don’t wear make up, heels or smart clothes because they aren’t appropriate or necessary for my daily activities (getting sweaty teaching fitness classes, walking the dog, doing jobs around the home). I have three modes of dress: Lycra for work, old scruffy stuff for dog walking, PJs or lounge wear if I’m at home. I keep myself clean and brush my teeth twice a day; anything else is a bonus. My self-esteem is fine. In fact it’s the best it’s ever been, at age 44.

Luna2 · 15/03/2022 15:11

Bath, teeth clean and clean clothes. Thats it. I cant be bothered ..

LaraDeSalle · 15/03/2022 15:12

I am always well groomed as I can relax when I know I look well/healthy/good. I have quick routines so find it easy.

Avocadobacardi · 15/03/2022 15:12

It’s important to me. I like to be well turned out as a matter of course. So hair blow dried, light makeup, clean ironed clothes. Other people aren’t bothered but yes mentally it’s important to me. I wouldn’t wear pyjamas during the day or lounge wear to the shops but I don’t have a problem of other people do

RosesAndHellebores · 15/03/2022 15:17

Yes. I think it's very important but there's best for work, best for a special occasion and best for weekends.

Mine is all fairly classic.

Work (tidy casual rather than formal). Usually a dress (Toast, Seasalt, White Stuff, Bodenham, M&S, Hobbs), opaques and flats or boots/sandals. Sometimes trousers. Always do hair and make-up (foundation, blusher, mascara, lipstick)

Occasion: appropriate for event, cocktail/party dress, opera theatre, wedding, etc. Would go to the hairdressers and put a bit more effort into make-up.

Weekends/holidays: casual dress or trousers, tunics, coatigans, etc. Make-up and hair same as a work day.

Everything is always clean and pressed and I.love good perfume and a nice bag (not necessarily MNet nice £1000

Have never had anything like acrylics, both, etc and never would but I do spend a lot on my hair.

AuntieMarys · 15/03/2022 15:22

Yes. I do not " dress up". I don't possess dresses or skirts, although we go out at least twice a week. I'm not an "occasion" person.
But I always have clean hair, regular manicures, tinted moisturiser and lipstick.
And earrings.

lulabelled · 15/03/2022 15:23

@LovelyYellowLabrador
I am definitely inconsistent too. Some days I will make a real effort. Make up, hair done, nice clothes etc. Other days I just throw on gym stuff brush my teeth and throw my hair up into a bun (and it needs washed) and look terrible. It doesn't help i wfh so don't really see people much. I want to look nice but don't want the effort. Thinking of getting my hair cut short so it makes life a bit easier.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2022 15:39

I'm clean and presentable at some point every day.
My "best" is actually bothering with make-up, a dress and nice shoes and I tend to pull that off a few times most years.
Most days I'm practical and clean.
I'm not an all-day pj person though.

trilbydoll · 15/03/2022 15:43

I can't function if I haven't washed my hair in the morning. And I always wear clean clothes. But makeup and the smartness of the clothes depends on what I'm doing. And having washed my hair I have no problem just scraping it back without brushing it if I'm only going to the supermarket.

FavouriteFortnight · 15/03/2022 15:59

Good for whom?

Lots of people feel better if they make a little effort on their appearance.

Some people really don’t care.

Either way is fine.

Personally I feel better if I look vaguely presentable but I’ve better things to do than “look my best” every day.

MrsGHarrison87 · 15/03/2022 16:02

I always make the effort to do make up and hair daily, but obviously not to the lengths I'd go to for a night out.

StopFeckingFaffing · 15/03/2022 16:07

I quite like being someone who "brushes up well"

I make minimal effort on a day to day basis, I'm always clean and clothes aren't falling apart or anything but I don't bother with make up and wouldn't dream if wearing high heels etc

I do like to make an effort for special occasions but couldn't be bothered doing it every day

garlictwist · 15/03/2022 16:09

I'm always clean but I hardly ever wear make up and don't dress very smartly (usually because it's too cold). If you look your best every day then what do you do when you want to look really good? You've got to have a low starting point, I feel Smile
