Black margin at bottom of phone screen - any idea how to get rid??

Just recently, a black section has appeared at the bottom of my phone screen. Will try post a pic. It never used to be there and it's really annoying as it covers up things like the text box when I'm typing a text. Anyone have any idea what this is and how I can get rid of it?? It's a Samsung Galaxy.

Yes it happened to me. It came and went but I ended up needing to replace my phone. Also a Samsung galaxy. If you Google it you'll find its a common problem with older phones.

Oh god. Just what I need! I was worried this might be the problem, that the phone's getting ready to give up the ghost. Just realised that I now can't text in whatsapp either as it covers up the text box there too!

Can you turn your screen sideways and access the text box?

Have tried that, it doesn't change. And not sure how to get it to show the landscape view. Have trawled the settings
