Normally I'm a 'count your blessings', 'glass half full' kind of a gal. Today though I just want to take one day off
. So here's what I have a chip on my shoulder about:
Workplace promotion is rarely based on quiet competence, hard work and using one's initiative.
Rich thick kids get better exam results than poor clever ones.
Well connected professionals leverage their contacts to get their kids internships and jobs.
Well off folk can give their kids a chunk of money to get on the housing ladder, most working class kids without the bank of mum and dad never will.
We don't live in a meritocracy and patterns of inequality are deeply ingrained in our society and show no signs of changing.
I'll plaster my Pollyanna smile on first thing tomorrow.
