Fitting 3 car seats in the back of the car?

Has anyone managed this in a regular/average sized car? We have:
Dd1 6 years old, who is already 125cm currently in a hbb but wants to take the back off. Haven't actually done it yet.
Dd2 2.5 years old not sure exactly how tall but definitely too small for a hbb. She still needs her 5 point harness, she does face forwards though due to travel sickness.

A discussion came up tonight about how we would fit an infant carrier in as well. I don't think we could. DH thinks we can. I think Dd1 would end up squished in the middle.

Both front seats will have an adult in them.

Any suggestions? These will be fairly frequent journeys (helping a friend with hospital appointments) once she has her baby. Public transport isn't an option, friend can't afford cabs.

It really does depend on the shape of your car seats, so try and see. I used to fit 3 in the back of a golf eg, but tried a Range Rover and they couldn't fit!

With the size of car seats now I really don’t think you’ll manage it in a ‘standard’ car. I’ve got a big car and two kids in HBB style seats and you wouldn’t get another between them

Can't you put the adult in the back and the infant carrier or dd6 in the front. It's just occasional journeys.

I can’t get three in mine.

We can't get three in ours
We had to buy a multimac

I can only just get three across the back in a disco 5. My advice would be to buy a special extra narrow booster cushion for your 6 year old to go in the middle seat. That might work and is probably the safest place in the car for her to sit without a high back booster.

we had 3 kids in car seats at one point and had a mondeo as it was wide enough to fit 3 seats in - a lot of cars are to narrow.

I can't get an adult between my two car seats. Not even a very thin one! I have a medium sized hatchback. It also only has two isofix points.

Some car seats are slimmer than others and some cars are better shapes than others so maybe with really good choices you could squeeze the three seats in.

No, an adult doesn't fit very comfortably in the back. Dd2 is in the Nuna rebl and it's quite wide. Journey is about 35-40 mins, around half of it through a city so low speed but long.

The multi Mac is amazing, but not sure I'd want to shell out for that to help my friend with a few months of hospital appointments 😂

I will see if I can find a narrow booster seat for dd2 to sit on in the middle.

We put 3 in the back in a Citroen grand c4. It really just depends on the car. Google and there's a list somewhere which tells you which cars can fit 3 seats in the back.

I've got three in the back of my touran. Had to buy particularly narrow seats. So I'd say an average car would be tricky. You can buy an isofix extender which pushes the seats closer to the doors which might help.
