Chicken pox vaccine

I have my two DC booked in for it this week. After hearing afew horror stories of children being hospitalised recently with it. I will obviously ask these questions when I go however I also didn't want to waste their time by going and not having it done. So just wondering if others asked the following questions or know the answer.

If the child has already been exposed is the vaccine now pointless?
Also does it wear off I have read that it lasts a long time however this concerns me. Could it mean as adult they could end up with chicken pox which could actually be more serious?

My son had his first one a couple of weeks ago. He's 7 so has possibly been exposed to it before but has never "had it". He was absolutely fine after it too.
I don't think the pharmacist said how long the immunity is for, I'll ask at his next appointment in 2 weeks 🤔

DD had hers when she was about 18 months old.
Long time ago, she turns 21 in May. I can’t remember her having any side effects and I don’t know how long it works for so I’ll be watching with interest
