Anyone bought a PS5 From Ebay? Experiences good or bad ?

Not really looking for a debate on the ethics. Asking how safe do you think it is ?
My DS has wanted one for 2 years but we have never managed to secure one from a shop. Didn’t want to order from EBay as considered it risky and obviously paying way over the retail price
But now, I just want to get him one. He’s not moaning or acting up by the way. He would just very much like one .
Anyone have any advice? Pitfalls, what to look out for. Are the chances the PS5 will be delivered as promise or will it be a scam ?

Personally I wouldn't. We bought an XBox from CEX once - excellent warranty there.

Clymene · 14/03/2022 06:45

I would sign up to stock informer and then you'll get an alert when they're in stock in a shop. Much safer.

My comments about the ethics is because I haven’t wanted to use this route. It’s exploitative and I didn’t want to add to the issue of unethical reselling but here I am . I suppose I just don’t want to be told off when all I want to do is give DS something he really wants ( and hasn’t moaned about ) .

Nobody has told you off.

I personally wouldn't buy electricals from ebay. Just not worth it. As said above CEX have an excellent warrenty on their stuff.

I got ours for DS last Christmas from eBay (so approximately 16 months since I bought it). I paid about £20 more than in the shops. It arrived before I was even expecting it, in perfect condition in the unopened box. Still going strong and no problems at all.

Tried CEX on and off a year or so ago . Signed up for stock alerts . But thank you . I will try CEX again mind you as I had forgotten about them
It just looks so tempting to use EBay . They are right there , or are they? Is it a scam ?

Hi, I did just before Christmas.

I made sure I bought from someone with good feedback and they had their username on a bit of paper in the pictures. As it was Christmas I only paid a bit over the odds as they were competing with each other, I don’t know what prices are like now.

I just had a look to see if the seller I used happens to be selling again but there’s nothing currently. His reviews are 100% positive. As a PP said when they show a photo with their user name on a piece of paper it does at least show they had the item, although it’s obviously not a guarantee that it hasn’t been sold already. Check reviews and go for it if you can find one that looks legit!

I used to work at CEX and if they don't have something in stock they can order it from another store. I'm guessing for such a high value item they would want a deposit, but at least you'd get the warranty.

My worry with ebay would be losing money on fakes, although I suppose you do have protection from paypal.

I don't know anyone who hasn't managed to get one through signing up for Stock Informer. I got a PS5 and and XBox X through stock informer.
ForcingSmiles · 14/03/2022 07:12

I personally wouldn't...

I'd sign up to Stock Notifications as they seem to be coming in fairly regularly now. We got ours from Amazon without overpaying by watching stock alerts.

Ebay don't use paypal anymore so you'd be relying solely on Ebay's support centre if something went wrong

Whitefire · 14/03/2022 07:37

I bought a Nintendo Switch from eBay. Except it was an elaborate scam, I did get my money back no questions asked, but it was a couple of years back so it was with PayPal.

Rivermonsters · 14/03/2022 09:03

Eh some listings are legit. Does the listing look fishy to you? If not then defo purchase but use PayPal

Footgoose · 14/03/2022 09:17

Thanks for replies. There are listings that look legit to me . I’ ve never bought from EBay that’s all .

Hi OP, just wanted to mention that it might be worth checking places like FB (facebook) Market for PS5's. I haven't personally bought any from there but I plan to and a good way of not getting scammed would be to ask them to deliver it and pay in cash. That's one way of checking that they have the item they claim to be selling.

NandorTheRelentlessCleaner · 15/03/2022 11:30

I got hold of a PS5 just before Christmas

Took me a year, it turned out the best way to get one was hanging around in Game shops, and asking the people who work there when the next PS5s come in

They were very helpful, said normally deliveries arrive at X time. I then called them in the morning (they gave me their number and suggested I’d do this, so helpful) and asked “any ps5s coming in today?”

First time I was too late

Second time they said 3 PS5s would come in at mid day, so at 11:45 I was hogging the counter Grin

Anyway, just sharing in case this might work for you

The staff at the 2 Game shops I tried were ever so helpful

Didydani · 15/03/2022 11:30

Be careful buying from second hand shops like CEX. I got my first PS5 from CEX and paid twice the price, which in hindsight was stupid. I got ripped off. They'll sell it to you at a much higher price (think £600+) when the retail price is £449 for the disk edition or £359 for the digital edition. FB market are selling them closer to the retail price from what I can tell.
