Please help me find a thing if it even exists

As I know some of you are good at finding ideas and random stuff on the internet, I thought I'd ask for your help. I am trying to lose weight but struggle to motivate myself at times for various reasons. I am doing it by adopting a new way of eating rather than a diet.

I know when I play games on my phone, I get addicted to collecting the full set of whatever the game gets you to collect, eg characters, cards, dragons etc, so thought if I could somehow tie this into weight loss then it would keep me going even when things are slow. So, I want a "thing" that you have to collect, or buy in sections, that kind of thing. I don't even know if such a thing exists so if anyone finds something I will be v grateful.

What sort of a thing? There’s loads of things you can collect.

What do you like? What’s your price point? Do you want a physical thing or a digital thing?

If you are interested in exercise you could get the Nintendo switch and ring fit - you can play it as a game and have to defeat baddies and then the big boss at the end of a level

Pokémon Go. You hatch eggs by literally walking 5 or 10km. Finding new Pokémon and walking to interesting places to get to the restock thingies (haven't played in a long time!) A phone game, where the point is to literally catch them all, which rewards you for walking.

Not quite the same thing but may work similarly, I have previously used www.weightlossresources.co.uk/

It's just calorie counting really but having all the targets and tracking things was good for me - you get "success" days for instance which is a bit like collecting tokens.

There must be something more gamified somewhere, it would make sense these days - I can see it being helpful to many people.

Not sure what you're after...
Maybe print off list of every vegetable Tesco sell, and try to eat a different one every day?

Conqueror events - you do a virtual walk of somewhere and they send you a medal and postcards. I haven't done it myself - the cost put me off though I liked the idea of virtually walking eg the Riviera.

There's an app called 21 Days, where you can set yourself a custom 21 day challenge, and then each day if you confirm you completed the challenge you earn points. You could set up a series of challenges concurrently eg no snacks between meals; walk 10,000 steps a day, etc. You can also do the default or community challenges eg daily workouts, etc. With your points you win, you can customise your avatar.

Noom gives you gold coins if you achieve 3 things each day. They also keep a count of how many meals you’ve logged which is quite competitive.

I came across virtual walking too, that one was collecting miles walked between different locations of Henry VIII wives...

Maybe less what you mean but there are wooden weight loss trackers on etsy where you slot a coin in whenever you lose a pound.

I spent far too long browsing and endied up with a personalised laminated weight loss chart and gold stickers. Lose 5lb so far.

Thanks for all your suggestions, there's some great ideas! I knew you all would be able to help.

I used to have an app that gamed my goals - so I would prioritise daily goals and get points for streaks, achievements and that would unlock aspects of the game, kitting out my avatar, playing a part of a game, etc. I used to find it fun and motivating. It was Habitica - a gamified taskmanager.
Maybe Google: productivity apps that use gamefication

substrate · 15/03/2022 23:24

Erm, gamefied, not gamified.
