How long is it taking for passport renewals?

We applied for new passports for the kids last week as realised they were about to expire.

Now looking to book something in 5 weeks... I'd think they'd be back by then but has anyone had recent experience?

I would never risk that, it's too stressful and too much money to lose.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 13/03/2022 18:11

My daughter sent our grandkids passports renewals off on 31/1/22 and had a message a couple of days ago to say they are on their way to her.

30ishiwish · 13/03/2022 18:30

Much quicker than I thought it would be. We had ours back in just over two weeks.

I got 3 renewals and 1 brand new passport back this week. I did the applications on the 9th Feb, if that's any help

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 13/03/2022 18:42

Started the application on 13.2.22 and got a notification to say they’re on their way back to me on the 10.3.22. I haven’t received them yet.

I wouldn’t book to go away in 5 weeks.

3 replacement passports applied for and received within 2 weeks. February. Including 1 needing extra confirmation and 1 rejected photo.

5 weeks would be a bit risky for me though. Not a given it would be turned around in time.

I renewed recently and it took 2 weeks, which included it taking nearly a week for my old passport to get to them / them to acknowledge receipt. At the time the gov website was saying it was a 4 week wait. It’s now saying 5 weeks: www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-passport-office/about-our-services

luckyrabbits · 13/03/2022 18:47

We just had a child renewal. Took about 4 weeks.

Xxrzx · 13/03/2022 18:47

3 weeks x

EmmaStone · 13/03/2022 18:48

Just did a child renewal, just under 4 weeks.

Watapalava · 13/03/2022 18:49

No way would I book - wait and book a last minute

NameChange30 · 16/03/2022 11:49

I just renewed DS's passport and it took just under 4 weeks from start to finish. From the day I posted his old passport to the day his new passport arrived (today), it took 3 weeks and 1 day.

zighead · 16/03/2022 11:54

I renewed my child's passport online on the 6th March and sent the old one by recorded next day delivery on the 7th. The passport office is still showing as if it's not received although it was signed for so there is obviously some sort of delay.
I wouldn't be able to book a holiday expecting the passport back in less than 5 weeks, that would too stressful for me.

terrywynne · 16/03/2022 13:13

A bit over 4 weeks - some of that was delays at our end in getting photos verified and posting old docs. Was easier than I expected but not sure I would want to do it with a tight deadline, too stressful.

zighead · 30/03/2022 10:55

Just to update that the passport came through the post yesterday so only took three weeks in total, which I think is pretty impressive.

Iloveacurry · 30/03/2022 10:59

Just did my daughter’s renewal online. Took just over 2 weeks to receive the new passport.

Randomuser9876 · 30/03/2022 12:24

Thanks all... We started renewal on 7th March for 2 dc... We've had one back this week but no word at all on other which is strange. So still waiting to book!!
