Did anyone else listen to this programme ? I only listened to the first hour - 1977 - and, with one or two exceptions, I knew all the records and most of the words too. And it struck me just how high the standard of pop music was in those days. The number one was Chanson D'Amour by Manhattan Transfer, the previous number one was When I Need You by Leo Sayer and the soon-to-be number one was Knowing Me, Knowing You by ABBA. In a few weeks' time, the number one would be Free by Deniece Williams. Every one of these a quality song and I couldn't imagine anything like those even making the lower reaches of the Top 75 now.
I don't have a point or punchline, except to say there was some exceptional talent to be heard. I hope there is now but I really don't know for sure.
