Anyone thinking of housing a Ukrainian refugee?

I'm pondering if we could give a refugee a home, is anyone is the same position?

My DH is open to three idea. We have some spare rooms, lots of space, but have two young children and I work full time. We're also about to have building work and will be without a proper kitchen for a while.

Is this daft?

We're also rural, no public transport. I wonder if this might make it impossible.

Keen to chat to anyone who might be thinking of exploring this too.

I think the rural, no public transport would be the biggest concern. There is an existing organisation that matches refugees and they only do placements in cities as this is where people find the most connections and opportunities. That said, if you were able to provide lifts to local transport initially then it might work.

I think you also have to think about how long you could do it for. Six months doesn't seem very long for someone to settle and set up a self sufficient life.

I'm interested to see what the website says and what level of matching takes place.

I'd love to but I also think we are too rural to easily access any support or even just regular social interaction. I also have my traumatised adult DD living with us and I have a tendency to take on too much. So I've made the decision not to. I feel a bit shit about it though.
