Do I have to pay this?!

Today I’ve received a parking charge for £85 from a couple of weeks ago when I parked in a pub carpark, and went into that same pub for dinner!

I don’t understand. Surely it’s not unreasonable to park in the carpark of the place you are eating at? I didn’t see any signs in the carpark (which isn’t to say there weren’t any) saying you had to pay, and I’ve been there before and not paid and not got charged.

Anyway, do I have to pay? What happens if I don’t?!

Call the pub and ask?

Lubeyboobyalt · 12/03/2022 16:26

could be a scam - call the pub

Squiff70 · 12/03/2022 16:26

What reason did they give? Was it a max 2 hour stay and you were longer than 2 hours?

livyaz · 12/03/2022 16:26

There was more than likely some kind of registration portal in the venue you visited.
Most often run by an outside agency who own the parking area.

AlexaShutUp · 12/03/2022 16:27

Do you have a receipt or anything to prove that you ate there?

CantStandMeCow · 12/03/2022 16:28

There are a few privately run car parks round here that back onto Indian restaurants but have nothing to do with them. And they’re bastards. They won’t accept any kind of excuse even if their bloody machine isn’t working.

Call the pub. Something similar happen to DH and my parents - they parked in the car park of a retirement place to clear out my late Grandmothers flat. They spoke to the warden who emailed and got it cancelled because they were legitimately there.

Hopefully the pub will be able to do the same

Yes ask the pub some places you have to give your vehicle reg when going somewhere . If they didn’t tell you and no signs appeal .

Thanks for the replies. I do have a confirmation of our dinner at the pub. I don’t know why (I do - I’m stupid!) but it hadn’t occurred to me to ring the pub!
