Have you ever woken with a scream?

I had a nightmare last night where I was screaming in my dream.

I shot awake, with my mouth open but I didn’t make a sound.

Has anyone ever actually woke up with a scream or is that a movie thing?

Not me but my DH sometimes wakes with a kind of shout/half-scream sound, like ‘Aaah!’ He’s also tried to get up & run away on some occasions while still asleep or only half awake Confused and yet he complains that I mutter in my sleep…

I don’t know if anyone else has this, but I sometimes realise I am having a bad dream but can’t wake up. I scream as loud as I can in my dream to wake myself up as it is the only thing that works. I wake up sort of yelping. Weird.

Yes, frequently. Poor husband has been punched, too 🥴

I was on amitriptyline for anxiety a few years ago. Really helped but gave me awful trippy nightmares that were as terrifying as they were weird. I often woke up making a strangled scream.my heart would be racing and would take me several minutes to feel ok. Never had that before or since.

Yes, fairly regularly but I have night terrors. DH shits himself and then gets pissed off at being woken up

Only once, when I used nicotine patches to stop smoking...apparently relatively common.

I started screaming blue murder in my sleep according to DH. I knew nothing about it but simply woke up suddenly with DH looming over me with a lamp in his hand, raised above his head, looking wild. He scared the absolute shit out of me and all sorts of awful things flew through my head about dh in a split second, thinking I was going to be murdered.

In reality, I scared the shit out of DH by screaming bloody murder and he woke up, jumped up and grabbed the first thing to hand in a sleepy daze, thinking I was being attacked or something. He actually ripped the lamp cord out he pulled it with such force 🤦🏻‍♀️

We laugh about it now but it was awful at the time. We both scared the pants off each other so badly...he was on edge and paced the house awake for the next five hours and I cried on and off for about the same time 😂

Haha I’m the same. I get night terrors and quite often wake up screaming. The first night dp stayed over when we started dating I sat up bolt right, screaming and pointing that there was someone in the room, so he jumped out of the bed shouting where in the dark, then turned the light on and realised no one was there and turned back to me and id already settled back down fast asleep. He on the other hand said he didn’t sleep for the rest of the night - it still happens now and is much worse/triggered when im anxious or overwhelmed. All I get now when I wake up from a night terror is for gods sake go back to sleep there’s nothing there.

All the time as I have night terrors, it's usually the noise of my own screaming that bring me round. I don't know how DH copes. Or the neighbours.

Been having them for years and still can't find the trigger.

I once dreamed that I was being strangled and I woke up with my hands round my own throat. Scared me to death. Luckily it was a one off
