Gave up chocolate for lent.

Life is crap atm. Mum suicidal. Best friend starting chemo next week for breadt cancer. DH and I just rowing or working. Small children being very intense. Nanny gave notice as needs a different working pattern..

I have chocolate. I just want to eat it.

Yes. Eat it. God wants us to be happy and able to help others by being in a good place mentally. If there is a God anyway.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 10/03/2022 20:39

I absolutely believe there is. I don't want to be a failure but life is just so hard right now

Eat it, eat it, eat it c

Coriandersucks · 10/03/2022 20:41

Only if you’re not going to beat yourself up over it tomorrow - life’s too short to deprive yourself especially if you’re going through a shit time but don’t let it be something else crap to add to the list iyswim.

Hope things get better for you soon Flowers

DueyCheatemAndHow · 10/03/2022 20:42

I fear you're right and I will do that.

I have m&s chocolate biscuits though....

Eat it. If you feel bad for not giving something up for lent you could always do random acts of kindness instead

Some nice ideas here... hodgepodgedays.co.uk/life/40-acts-of-kindness-for-lent/

Sexnotgender · 10/03/2022 20:46

Good lord just eat it❤️ Life is rough. Enjoy your chocolate.

Tigerteafor3 · 10/03/2022 20:47

Eat it. Support the people around you best by supporting yourself first.

AdrianCanChaseMe · 10/03/2022 20:47

Jesus has got much more important things to worry about than a family sized Dairy Milk.

Crack on.

AdrianCanChaseMe · 10/03/2022 20:47

I'm eating a shared sized bag of maltesers BTW.

nearlyspringyay · 10/03/2022 20:48

Just eat it. Were what a week in? Sack it off!

Smokeahontas · 10/03/2022 20:49

You’ll not lie on your deathbed and think ‘thank god I didn’t eat that chocolate during Lent 2022’.

Horse it into ye

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/03/2022 20:49

Did you give it up for health, mood, religious or other reasons?

Health? MH is more important right now, eat it. Mood? If you are likely to sugar crash and feel worse don't eat it. Religious? Jesus loves you. There is no issue there. Other? Ask!

And feel better. Thanks

DueyCheatemAndHow · 10/03/2022 20:49

Love it @MrsTerryPratchett

I gave up chocolate for Lent once. Didn't lose so much as a pound and it made sod all difference to anything apart from my mood, which was very grumpy. So go for it! Sadly recent events have proven life really is too short not to...

Shopgirl1 · 10/03/2022 20:51

I wouldn’t, it will be gone in 5 minutes and won’t have changed anything, I’d just add guilt at breaking fast to worries, but that’s just me. If you can eat it and not feel guilt afterwards, and it makes you happy, go for it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/03/2022 20:56

Why wouldn't you eat it?!

Marcipex · 10/03/2022 22:55

God sent the chocolate x

Heatherjayne1972 · 11/03/2022 06:44

Lent is a made up
Thing anyway

Eat the chocolate. There’s plenty more in the shop . -
look after you

You are also important

peboh · 11/03/2022 06:45

Eat the chocolate. Life is far too short to give up something that makes you feel better, if only for a moment. Eat the chocolate.

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 11/03/2022 12:27

I gave up chocolate for Lent too.
Eat my chocolate for me, and I'll not eat your chocolate for you. Voila - balance is restored.

Enjoy your chocolate and I hope life begins to treat you better very soon x

TakingTheLowRoad · 11/03/2022 12:35

I have COVID at the minute. I also gave up chocolate and sweets for Lent. I give myself Sundays off but this morning a special delivery of very chocolately cookies arrived to cheer me up. In my head I’m swapping my Sunday treat for today -but if I feel like eating a cookie a day until I’m out of isolation I will. Don’t beat yourself up. Sacrifice can come in my forms. Mine is that both my husband and I got COVID at the same time and I just wanted the house to myself for 7 days!

DetailMouse · 11/03/2022 12:38

I don't think you should. It won't help your mood, it more likely to give you a slump and something else to feel fed up about.

Of course it's up to you, you should do what makes you happiest, but is eating that after having done so well going to make you happier?

muddyford · 11/03/2022 16:57

Eat it. I think during WW2 religious communities in the continent didn't give up things for Lent as life was hard enough anyway. That's the view I took in Lent 2020 and haven't yet had cause to adjust it. I usually give up chocolate for Lent but have been working my way through a bag of Nutella cookies...

misstheferry · 11/03/2022 16:59

Not that it gives me the slightest bit of authority, but I'm a practising Catholic and I say eat it. You've enough on your plate.
