Anyone taken anti depressants while pregnant?

Hello, I was on 50mg of Sertraline prior to getting pregnant. When we were TTC I weaned myself off with no issues. I’m now 7 weeks and my MH has taken a bit of a tumble. My anxiety is bad and I feel pretty low.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of taking these meds while pregnant? Should I wait until the second trimester to go back on them? The net says it’s fine to take them but I’d love some real life experiences.

Thank you 😊

I started on a very low dose of anti depressants when pregnant, although I was in my second trimester. My gp spoke to our local perinatal mental health team to agree the type and dosage so I would imagine your gp would do the same. My midwife also organised other community support so suggest talking to yours as well. All was ok, apart from an extra appointment with the peri natal mental health dr and extra obs for the baby after birth (I had to stay in a night), my pregnancy and birth were similar to my previous baby.

It’s so important to look after yourself, you and your health is just as important as your babies. I hope your gp and midwife are supportive and you are feeling better soon.

I took sertraline and then in discussion with the perinatal psych stopped taking them by 36 weeks to avoid neonatal withdrawal (which isn't thought to be dangerous but is unpleasant for the baby). Restarted the day I gave birth.

Thank you both so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I’m going to chat to my GP. I just want to feel a bit more ‘me’ again.

I took citalpram whilst pregnant. When baby was born we had to stay 3 nights in hospital to check she didn't have withdrawals. She was fine but just warning you that that may happen

Thanks, Cheese. That’s something to consider.

I plan on weaning myself off 4 weeks before, as Nutty did. And then going straight back on them after the baby is born!
