I’ve recently discovered podcasts and would love some ideas on what to listen to.

Battersea poltergeist, uncanny and haunted by Danny Robbins are good if you like spooky stuff. This podcast will kill you is a good medical/history one.

InDubiousBattle · 10/03/2022 10:00

I like Kermode and Mayo's film review and Ellis James and John Robins from 5 Live.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 10/03/2022 10:03

It so depends on what you enjoy. My subscribe list is a mixed bag of unrelated topics so they may not appeal to anyone else but…

Dark Histories — Ben the host has a great voice and a good approach (not exploitative of darker aspects in the stories he researches, iyswim). Not all episodes are to my taste but he’s so genuinely interested in what he’s doing that I’ve become a loyal listener anyway.

Sarah Raven & Arthur Parkinson’s gardening podcast — on some level this is purely a marketing exercise, but I find it lovely and calm and practical/interesting

The Bowery Boys: big back catalogue of in-depth New York history across a wide range of periods/subtopics

Relatively: about sibling relationships, only listened to 1 or 2 of these but I enjoyed them

Prepublished: for aspiring writers (UK-based)

Life's a Beach - Alan Carr talking about travel with celebrities. Funny and somewhat rude occasionally.

Wolf & Owl - Romesh Ranganathen and Tom Davis basically wittering on about nothing and answering a few emails. I love the banter between them and they way they just dissolve into laughter.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 10/03/2022 10:06

Oh! Adam Buxton

You’re dead to me by the makers of horrible histories
Stuff you should know - covers a huge range of topics
Just the gist - explains past events you may have heard of but don’t know much about

Beautiful/Anonymous - Comedian Chris Gethard takes a 1 hour phone call from a stranger. The only rules are it's anonymous and Chris can't hang up. Sometimes the calls are about nothing at all (ep 9: In the Candy Aisle) and sometimes they're deeply personal (ep 69: Love is Everywhere) but they're always a great listen.

Who Shat on the Floor at my wedding - it's about exactly what it sounds like.

Ear Hustle - produced and recorded in San Quentin prison. When it started the co-host Earlonne was a prisoner, he's since has his sentence commutated and now works for the production company making the show.

Dolly Parton's America - a documentary series about Dolly Parton
