I've just shut DD's bedroom window, but it's only been open 30 minutes and I don't really feel like it's enough, but I have the school run.

Why can’t You leave it open?

3001signon · 09/03/2022 14:15

Usually a few hours here, DH likes fresh air!

We would lock ours on vent if we were going out, is that an option if you don’t feel it’s fresh enough?

Owts better than nowt in our house Grin

If it's freezing it might only open the window while I make the bed and tidy round, but every little hells freshen a room up.

TonkaTruckduck · 09/03/2022 14:27

Half an hour in the morning before DH catches on and goes around closing them all Hmm

AHungryCaterpillar · 09/03/2022 15:05

Is it on the ground floor? I live in south London and leave my windows open all the time at the top of the house 😬 feeling like I should be closing them now!

emmathedilemma · 09/03/2022 16:27

about 3 minutes this morning while i was getting dressed for work!

MiniDaffodils · 09/03/2022 16:29

Just for 5 minutes if I have more than one window open in the house - you get good air flow that way.

@AHungryCaterpillar well I'm my Dad always told me it invalidates your insurance if you are burgled and had the window open when you are out. 🤷‍♀️ My DH I'm ott on things but people leave their kids bikes and scooters out the front here and they often get taken or moved about.

I wouldn’t leave my windows open when I go out and I live in a naice village with very low crime …. apart from several opportunistic burglaries recently where the home owners had left a window open.

Littlegoth · 09/03/2022 16:33

I probably don’t air enough in winter, looking forward to summer when most of the windows are open all day long (wfh)

My DH is exactly the same! I really like airing bathrooms and bedrooms in morning - my parents always did. I feel like I've never seen a window open EVER in DH's parents' house Shock
nordica · 09/03/2022 16:39

Often it's not the length of time that helps but generating a draft through the house to get air circulating, so ideally open windows at opposite sides of the house.

LBOCS2 · 09/03/2022 16:40

I live in south London too and we have our first floor windows open all the time - especially the top ones.

So, for airing, half an hour is fine if you've created air flow. But in terms of general life, we always have our windows open!

JaninaDuszejko · 09/03/2022 16:40

I have the small upstairs windows open the whole time if we are in the house. Safe area and they are too small to climb through.

crochetmylifeaway · 09/03/2022 16:44

Our windows are never shut unless the rain is coming in. I hate a stuffy house. If the kids are cold and shut theirs at night it's open again in the morning left that way.

The only time they are closed for extended periods of time is if we are going away for a night or 2

marqueses · 09/03/2022 16:45

Every day's a school day on here, who knew that people had rules and regs about window opening frequency and length of time Grin

ffscovid · 09/03/2022 16:51

At this time of year, about 20-30 mins - between when everyone's got dressed and when we leave for school / work.
In the height of summer, they're hardly ever closed.

Flexitarian · 09/03/2022 16:52

Hardly ever at the moment. It’s fecking freezing!!!

DetailMouse · 09/03/2022 16:54

I don't ever leave my windows open when I'm out and hardly ever in winter. As my dad would say "you're heating outdoors".
