On International Woman's Day I saw...

A young man repeatedly kick a young woman whilst she lay screaming on the ground.

(Yes I did intervene. They claimed they were ' messing around' )

So I thought I would ask other people here if what they saw/ experienced yesterday that gave them hope or despondency about progress for women.

I live in Denmark. One of my colleagues said oh we're so lucky that things are better here than in the rest of the world. I told her that probably wasnt much comfprt to the 6 women who are already dead this year.

Then she started talking about the erasure of the word women and how jk rowling is unfairly hounded which cheered me up no end.

Saw that Asda were doing a 20% discount on womens clothes. Should bring it in line with the gender pay gap.
And fuck me if all the adverts weren’t talking about how powerful and strong we are. Fuck off mate.

The Gender Pay Gap Bot on Twitter who was posting the Pay Gap stats for each of the companies and organisations who posted social media posts about IWD2022. It was extremely interesting to see which organisations will make public statements about honouring and supporting women while paying their female staff less than their male staff. Some of the organisations started to delete their posts or retweet them with the hashtag removed but many people had archived the posts so the hypocrisy was laid bare.

OP, that's horrifying about that young woman - hopefully she gets out of that situation.

I seen the local peado looking at school girls in the shop l work, l stood in his sight line and glared at him, unfortunately we can’t Bar him.

On nicer note a lovely man said Happy international women’s day and then he chatted to a lady behind him and paid for her shopping and said the same to her.l see him all the time l think he is a lovely guy.

Talk is cheap, eh? I don't judge anyone on their words anymore, only their actions.

I saw the Vagina Museum tweet a message centring Trans Women on IWD and then blocking any woman who complained that women should have one day just for them.

OP, what you saw was despicable, well done for intervening.

@Solongtoshort surely a shop can refuse service if they wish to? If the man concerned has a criminal conviction, even more reason.

Saw an advert on TV for Always sanitary items, proclaiming that many "people" who have periods struggle monthly

Re.pay gap, doesn't everyone negotiate on their pay?! If not happy move on to next job...? Find it weird.

Isn't pay earned a mixture of skills, experience and negotiation, it's a game!

A large group of women holding candles in at a monument in remembrance of women burnt as witches, a statue of a famous dog covered in fairy lights and suffragette ribbons and a plaque to an 11 year old suffragette decorated with candles and 💚🤍💜 ribbons.

Oh and an advert in a national newspaper thanking 4 amazing, strong women who all share the same first letter in their first name.

Gender Pay Gap Bot was fantastic.I saw a lot of posts along the lines of 'here is my wife / daughter / colleague - isn't she amazing! Aren't women great!' Like a Fast Show IWD special. Fucksake.
