Which London show for my DD?

She likes: big whole-ensemble dances, fast and catchy songs, acrobatics, magic
She doesn’t like: loud bangs, anything with a dark plot

It doesn’t have to be a musical and it doesn’t have to be central London.

Anything Goes!

Classic musical, huge dance ensemble scenes and is a comedy so light hearted.

Sushiii · 07/03/2022 18:31

Fame?

Piggy42 · 07/03/2022 18:32

My dd and i were discussing it yesterday. We’ve narrowed it down to wicked and six!

Gooseysgirl · 07/03/2022 18:33

Wicked

Fivemoreminutes1 · 07/03/2022 18:38

Six seems popular and the plot seems good. Does it have loud bangs?

Wicked is incredible but also has some really loud parts (looking at you great and powerful oz and the flying monkeys!)

TakeMeToYourLiar · 07/03/2022 18:43

I would also recommend Mary Poppins.

There's a dark moment, but my not at all brave 5 year old was fine with it

Hm2020 · 07/03/2022 18:51

Frozen was amazing

movehimintothesun · 07/03/2022 18:55

Matilda is wonderful.
'& Juliet' was brilliant - really feel good, me and my DD came out singing, on a massive high!

Mama1980 · 07/03/2022 18:57

No loud bangs in 6 - it's brilliant! Some adult humour in the lyrics which may or may not go over a 12 year olds head.

KatieKat88 · 07/03/2022 19:10

SiX is fab and nothing scary/loud - listen to a couple of the songs on the soundtrack. It's basically historical Little Mix. Lots of dancing but there are only the six queens and four members of the band playing instruments on stage so quite small in terms of the production if that makes sense.

CourtRand · 07/03/2022 19:21

Six is fabulous. Great songs and costumes although no big ensembles and nothing very scary

Horriblewoman · 07/03/2022 20:03

Joseph is also on tour at the moment, it's the first musical I saw and I still think it's incredible

Subeccoo · 07/03/2022 20:12

Six is perfect I'd say AND it's just one act, so not too long, I really struggle with 2.5+ hrs in a theatre.
No loud bangs!

CircleofWillis · 07/03/2022 21:31

Matilda!! The songs are amazing!

Haus1234 · 07/03/2022 21:35

Six has no loud bangs and I really enjoyed it, but Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard’s songs both contain a lot of innuendo so depends if either of you would find that awkward!

Newuser82 · 07/03/2022 21:42

My just turned nine year old loved six! We have seen it twice. It does have sexual inuendo but it has gone straight over his head. He also liked Joseph, the lion king, Matilda (but there was a scary bit in that with a loud bang) and he has just seen Hamilton (I know he is a bit young but he is an absolute history fiend and loved it). Also how about Cinderella and yes wicked is amazing.

Eims88 · 07/03/2022 21:49

Matilda! It's incredibly impressive.

mumofthree22 · 07/03/2022 21:53

@Fivemoreminutes1 definitely Six or & Juliet - my 12 year DD loves them both!

Datsandcogs · 07/03/2022 22:05

Matilda
Six
Wicked
Bad Cinderella - which I’m amazed hasn’t had more recommendations.

lollipoprainbow · 07/03/2022 23:01

We saw Mary Poppins a couple of weeks ago and loved it, my dd is 9.

gogohm · 07/03/2022 23:05

If it's on hairspray fits the bill perfectly

Zhx3 · 07/03/2022 23:06

I would recommend Cinderella. No loud bangs, lots of humour and catchy tunes. Carrie Hope Fletcher was excellent too.

gogohm · 07/03/2022 23:07

Also anything goes, top hat, 42 street ... old school plenty of dance.

Dd liked Six and wicked, I've not seen them. We all love come from away, I saw Pricilla recently that was amazing

NotEnoughTime · 07/03/2022 23:08

I would suggest Six or Back To The Future.

Both fantastic.
