DHL driver giving me money for private sale?

delightly · 07/03/2022 13:00

I'm selling an item on gumtree, keen offer but they want to send DHL to pick it up. t
They've said the driver will give me the money in an envelope and then I give them the item to take back to the buyer. Is this a thing??

This is a well known scam

Alfiemoon1 · 07/03/2022 13:01

It’s a scam

Glittertwins · 07/03/2022 13:02

I echo the scam

Mumdiva99 · 07/03/2022 13:04

Well known scam. Google it.

gamerchick · 07/03/2022 13:05

It's a scam. If you proceed they'll ask you to pay an insurance fee first that they'll give you back.

It's a scam, don't fall for it. Couriers never bring envelopes of cash

gamerchick · 07/03/2022 13:06

And gumtree is thick with this shit. Be careful

Pinkmagic1 · 07/03/2022 13:08

I sold a dining table once and the courier did indeed give and envelope of cash and it was all legit. However it was an independent courier, not DHL.

Normando91 · 07/03/2022 13:09

As others have said, it’s a scam. If you accept, they ask you to pay an insurance fee which you’ll be “refunded”. No one will show up to take the item and you’ll lose however much they took for insurance.

As far as I am aware, couriers such as DHL will never accept cash for a delivery like this.

BluTangClan · 07/03/2022 13:33

I find, the first response you get, having placed a gumtree ad, is a scammer.

caulkheaded · 07/03/2022 13:34

Common scam - you can google it and see.

PatchworkElmer · 07/03/2022 13:36

Beamur · 07/03/2022 13:37

SCAM..

JustAnotherCrack · 07/03/2022 13:38

This is all over Facebook marketplace too, it’s a scam and really rather annoying

delightly · 07/03/2022 14:22

Sorry it was FB marketplace. It didn't ring true and I was in town trying to decide between 2 handbags so was distracted Grin It def didn't ring true. Had a Google once I was less flustered and could see it was a scam. Have reported the "buyer".

It is a minefield trying to sell stuff privately! Such a hassle. I didn't want to use ebay because I'm worried about being scammed by someone saying item defective or something or other so thought local selling would be better Hmm It has been so time consuming!!

Definitely a scam. A DHL driver would never do this, and the company wouldn't allow it.
