Domino's phoned at midnight - who hates me?

Asking if I'd ordered a large family pizza for delivery to ... my address .... and the the guy was outside or on his way now (can't recall which the call woke me up!)

I haven't ordered. Always order thru the app and pay by card any way. Very confused.

Now I can't sleep

That's bizarre. Did you tell them it was a mistake? Maybe a computer glitch check your app/online bank.

FantasticFebruary · 07/03/2022 00:36

Oh that's crap!!

It's horrible being woken so early on in the night!

Can I suggest you put your phone down? MN keeps me awake, it doesn't help me to go back to sleep! (I haven't gone to bed yet)

Good luck.

YotkshireLass · 07/03/2022 00:36

Checking bank now.

We never order that pizza size which makes it odder

YotkshireLass · 07/03/2022 00:39

Last order on app was 5th Feb- phew

How odd though

If it was a cash order it could be a misheard address.

I had a horrible one a few years ago, police banging on my door at midnight (neighbours all peering out...) and they asked if I was ok, where was my husband, calling me Jane when my name is Sally (not the real names obv). Turns out that it wa a DV call (they didnt say that but it was obvious) and they had got the right number but the wrong street. I ended up giving them directions to the poor womans home.

YotkshireLass · 07/03/2022 07:02

I've just checked our local store - it closes as 10.45pm !!!

So now I'm wondering wtf this is all about ???

OP posts:
AuntFlorence · 07/03/2022 07:05

Did they have a pizza? It might be code for drugs and they got the wrong address?

NOTANUM · 07/03/2022 07:44

Do you live in a shared block? Were they just trying to get entry so claiming to be pizza delivery?

YotkshireLass · 07/03/2022 07:52

auntflorence gosh I hope not Shock

No, house in private road

Interesting how they had correct address for my phone number 🤔

Might be worth setting your phone to Do Not Disturb when you expect to be asleep. I have mine set that during that time only calls and texts from certain designated numbers would get through, and no notifications at all.

claireb7rg · 07/03/2022 07:57

This happened to my parents a few months ago, they've never ordered pizza and it wasn't even the local branch. They reported it to the police who said they'd had a spate of calls along the same lines and it turns out the pizza was being delivered to see if the house was empty....
I'd report it if I were you

ElegantlyTouched · 07/03/2022 07:59

Ring them in the morning to check, and maybe see if there's another branch who would deliver to you too and check with them. If neither has a clue I'd be tempted to ring the police just in case something dodgy is going on.

Newbabynewhouse · 07/03/2022 08:49

Maybe some kids having a prank..ordered it to a random address....

Not gona lie me and a friend did this when were teens to a girls house that we didnt like... we didnt pay we said we'd pay at the doorBlush dont judge me

Cute little scam 🙄
AuntFlorence · 07/03/2022 09:48

Are you in the directory?
People can sometimes search if you're on the electoral role too.
Or maybe they found a piece of your post?

BorisKilledMyHusband · 07/03/2022 09:52

Did you accept the pizza though?

AdobeWanKenobi · 07/03/2022 11:08

How would they get a phone number for the house? Most people are ex directory and even then if calling a mobile it’s not going to give any clues of someone is at home or not is it? It makes no sense.
Why on earth would you send a pizza to scope out for a burglary when knocking on the door would do the same job?

Sounds on a par with wire ties on lamp posts to steal dogs that one.

Porfre · 07/03/2022 11:12

Ive for my phone on do not disturb after 10pm.

After this time only known contact can ring me- (it was completely no one, but added contacts as husband keeps locking himself out at night)

MadeForThis · 07/03/2022 11:30

Did they call your mobile?

LaTangerina · 07/03/2022 11:43

I thought domino's was card only now?
I'm haven't been able to order from domino's without paying upfront on a card since covid?
Sounds like the call may not have actually been from domino's if so?

YotkshireLass · 07/03/2022 12:31

I phoned domino's- definitely wasnt them.
They never hide their number.
They are card only.
They arectaking it seriously though as are concerned their name is being used in a scam.

My thoughts are:

  1. data breach?
  2. idiot person who knows me pulling a prank?
  3. some kind of scam which didn't go as far as gaining my credit card for payment due to my confusion and short shrift?

It does sound more like a scam to mei wonder how that one works 🥴
Always something new to watch out for isn't there.

HollowTalk · 07/03/2022 15:31

Do you have the caller's number? Have you tried putting it into Facebook? Or asking Dominos if they can put it into their system to see if there's a match?

CarrotSticks2 · 07/03/2022 15:37

It's clearly not dominoes, when has dominoes ever rung you before delivery? And they don't do family size pizzas

Did a pizza actually turn up? It's a scam of some sort but is it like a prank call, which is just odd thing to prank someone with, or as a PP said above someone trying to find out if the house is empty?
