Sertraline.... alcohol

I've been prescribed sertraline for anxiety.
The leaflet says avoid alcohol...
Is this because it won't be effective? Or another reason?
I don't want to start taking it if can't drink as have a hen weekend next week. Having less anxiety would be an added bonus but don't want to be passing out in the restaurant! Any experience of the two??

It usually makes you have awful headaches I have heard.

I didn't really notice a difference, I think it's because it may be less effective the then having a reaction.

The initial side effects means that you might not want to drink anyhow. Maybe it’s because alcohol is a depressant that it’s not advised to drink whilst taking antidepressants. Your mental health is more important than drinking at a hen do.

Wait until after the hen do to start taking it. It'll take a few weeks for the medication to kick in anyway so probably wouldn't have helped then anyway.

I'm on it, I drink on it too and it's not caused me any issues. It does give me a headache but nothing that a few paracetamol won't sort :)
