Do you have lovely handwriting?

I am in awe of people who can produce beautiful, flowing script.

My own is absolutely shocking. I've just sent a pic of a shopping list I wrote to send to dh and I knew it was bad, but honestly!

Even when I try really hard I simply cannot produce writing that is uniform or vaguely neat. Should have gone into medicine...

Why do others find it comes naturally I wonder? I am a leftie with an unusual pen grip and guess that plays a large part.

Should have gone into medicine...

One of my closest friends is a GP and has beautiful handwriting so I guess that stereotype is typical bullshit.

Depends how I feel. If I want to write nicely I will and it’s quite neat. But if I can’t be bothered it’s horrendous!

Of course it is a huge stereotype! I'm a former midwife though and have to say quite a few of my obstetric colleagues shared my flair for illegible writing.

I have ok handwriting but am also envious of people who write beautifully or with a distinct style.

Lemonweightloss · 06/03/2022 14:55

I have lovely handwriting.
I hated school and never understood much of what was going on ( in subjects like history, geography), so to look busy I'd often just sit and copy text from books.
I love writing letters and sending cards to relatives and friends.
Everyone else is e mailing etc, and I'm still writing.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2022 15:11

I have lovely handwriting. It all comes from the hours and hours of practice in Primary School I think. I remember 'C patterns' which was a row of joined up 'C's that did indeed look like the sea.
Years of writing in fountain pen helped too.

But I don't particularly enjoy writing. But I always get asked to write the leaving/baby cards at work.

A580Hojas · 06/03/2022 15:24

I have lovely quite distinctive handwriting. People comment on it all the time.

Everything else in my life is a bit chaotic though.

I'm exactly the same. Always get complimented on my handwriting but my life Is all over the show 😂

I would LOVE to see this handwriting- I love looking at beautiful handwriting. Mine own is so dire that I feel quite sorry for my students when I write feedback. You can't beat Yr9 girls for presentation in text books!

FazedNotPhased · 06/03/2022 15:34

I've got lovely handwriting, although very small. I can remember making a conscious effort to have nice writing as a child and it stuck.

DP is a doctor and his writing looks like an ink-covered drunken crab has scuttled across the page. I've seen toddlers with better penmanship.

dontgobaconmyheart · 06/03/2022 15:46

Those with the beautiful handwriting please show it, I absolutely love looking at besutiful writing, it's so satisfying and I'm so impressed by it.

Mine is average to marginally better than average but certainly isn't beautiful and I desperately wish it was. I've been trying to learn calligraphy and am genuinely considering some sort of handwriting workbooks. I love to write cards and letters and wish the writing style reflected the care I try to put into those but am usually left rolling my eyes at my own effort.

Curlewcall · 06/03/2022 15:47

I have very unusual handwriting, which lots of people have told me is beautiful. I don’t agree particularly it is just my handwriting.

I have no idea where it comes from.

However, neither do I understand what comes out when I sit with a pen and paper. I have recently written a book with unconscious writing. None of it thought through or planned but the outcome is a sufficiently competent that I am being encouraged to send it to publishers.

I sometimes wonder if someone else lives inside me and that it is them in charge of my pen.

CremeEggThief · 06/03/2022 15:49

Yes. Mine is lovely AND I can write in a few different styles too. I was very interested in calligraphy when I was younger and spent a lot of time experimenting.

flashpaper · 06/03/2022 15:51

I can write neatly if I slow right down and take my time but not usually. Someone once told me that I scrawl because my mind is working faster than my hand, which I completely agree with.

katepilar · 06/03/2022 15:52

My handwriting has been commented on for being nice but I think its mostly from people whos writing looks like they are still in primary school. There is so many people who have beautiful handwritng so much better than mine.
Also with using computer mouse so much my hand is not as easy to navigate to produce nice writing as it used to be.

Nordstrom · 06/03/2022 16:06

Oh yes would love to see some of your lovely writing. Could organise Father Ted style 'lovely writing' contest Grin

I have presumed my chaotic writing is a reflection of my generally chaotic mind/life!

Too outing, sorry!

Guineapigssweak · 06/03/2022 16:31

My now gone Grandparents had absolutely beautiful handwriting. My mum and aunts/sister and myself all write the same and it's very neat . My daughters writing is awful and unreadable but sadly she isn't a Dr lol

Dembones292 · 06/03/2022 17:10

My cousin has beautiful handwriting. She's done lots of wedding invitations, place settings etc for people over the years. If I was her I'd have turned it into a side hussle.
