Has anyone had exterior insulation installed?

I live in a solid brick semi-detached house..The side of the house is currently pebble-dashed and in a poor state of repair, so we were thinking of getting it rendered and painted. This is potentially an opportunity to get exterior insulation. I know it would be expensive but I'd like to get a quote. Trouble is, I'm struggling to find firms that do this in SW London. I put my postcode into a Government website which claimed to list accredited installers, but it only returned one result - in Scotland - and they said they don't cover London. Am I just 5 years too soon? I've seen there are firms which do it for council flats, but I'm starting to wonder if its considered too expensive and difficult for the private domestic market. Yet energy-saving advice websites still seem happy to recommend it. Confused

Our house has it but was done before we bought it. A lot of the houses in our street were done - think it’s was part of scone scheme/grant.

Can't help with installers, but my parents had it done on their 1930s semi and it was transformative. House always felt a little cold and damp growing up, then they did the insulation, new windows and a new boiler. You could literally feel the difference within seconds of walking through the door afterwards.

I managed to find people fairly locally (SE London) with google maps - I found that a lot of renderers had it listed as one of the things they did. The one I went with said If it's signed off by building control then there is a 25 year warranty.

Unfortunately getting the planning permission from my local council wasn't so easy. They said I needed to apply for planning permission because the render would change the look of my brick home from the road, and then they rejected my proposal because it would change the look of my house Confused

I'm trying again, but proposing brick slip on top of the insulation at the front, so it'll look similar to before (but cost more).

If you're already rendered you will probably have none of this shenanigans.

It's ridiculous that you need pp to install insulation! We are at the brink of an energy crisis. I would write to my MP if I were you

A couple of houses in my road have it. On both of them it looks like cream painted bricks.

We are victorian terraces and a couple are painted anyway so tbh if I hadn't seen it being done I would not even know it was there.

Thanks. As its a semi in a conservation area I think we will only be able to do one side (my elderly neighbour has already dipped into her savings for a new roof this year, so I don't suppose she'd be up for another project so soon!). Grin

We got the stuff pumped into the wall as we couldn't afford the exterior insulation.
I haven't noticed any difference Sad

I know!

I have written to local councillors with some support. I've written to local MP in past about green issues, but he never replies, so I'll leave him alone. Thankfully from following his speaking/voting/bills he supports, and talking to local green groups he is actually very green minded (and sensible in lots of other matters too), so I'll continue to vote for him anyway!

That was a reply to @grumpycatsmum

Surely that is cavity wall insulation? OP has solid brick.
