Has your home been featured in a home magazine??

I often buy home magazines, or browse them online. Stuff like ideal home, real homes, style at home etc.
Me and DH work full time, have 3 dcs and our house is always cleanly messy. I love looking at the homes for inspiration, and i know it’s all staged for the magazine, but always think these women look like they have all their shit together Grin
Then I always wonder if they’re on mumsnet. So has your home been featured in one of these magazines ever??

I often buy these magazines and have thought the same thing! I don’t know anyone, with or without children, who live in such ‘show homes.’ Of course that is probably just the people I know.

For the ones who have DC I have noticed how the whole home almost always looks like they don’t have DC, and their bedrooms are so perfect, often not a toy to be seen aside from those that ‘decorate’ the walls/shelves etc. No character bedding ie Disney, Star Wars etc - it’s all rainbows, beige and pastels.

The kitchens/dining areas never have high chairs/boosters, the lounge never has a toy box etc. In some respects I envy the tidiness and perfect decor, but then why shouldn’t a home show that there is smaller occupants too? Why should their things be banished from sight in a magazine because it’s considered not fashionable enough to show children’s things? Or maybe I’m just envious that my home will never look like this! Grin

Yes! Exactly. 🤣
I start to get a bit anxious at the thought of the tidy up operation when people are coming round. I wonder if that’s happened for the photo shoot, or people really do manage to have such a tranquil, orderly home with no mess all the time. I like a home with character and colour, but I’m constantly ‘just starting’ my decluttering quest 🤦🏻‍♀️😢🤣

My friend has been asked if her home could be featured in a magazine and she declined. She’s an interior designer and has beautiful taste and manages a comfortable lived in look which is also tasteful, chic and eclectic. She’s also an amazing gardener and a bloody nice person.

I’m scarcely jealous at all.Grin

As someone who works in that field I can reassure you that once the camera is put away, their homes look nothing like that!! It is all for show and I feel like you shouldn't be worrying about living up to that sort of standard!
