Tall children - do you or others treat them as if they were older?

If you have children who are very big/tall for their age, do you find that either you or other people treat them as if they were older than their actual age and expect more from them? Has this caused any problems?

Both my boys are tall for their age. My youngest is taller than his sister who is 2 years older. I was once sternly told off by a woman waiting for a fairground ride with her child that he shouldn't be on the ride as it was for under fives only and shouldn't keep the little kids waiting. He had just turned 3.

I think misperceptions based on height go on all through life tbh. I recently resigned from a job where I suffered bullying by a senior colleague. She was older than me but only 5'2" whereas I am 5'11". I know it sounds nuts but I honestly think people didn't believe her behaviour could affect me because I am so much taller.

I agree with others though that it's great to be the teen who never gets asked for ID! I could get into clubs from about age 13. I shudder now to think of it but it was all innocent, thank goodness.

@Coldgreenman

I wouldn't be so sure tall=good at sports. Took me until I was 23 for my brain to catch up to the height I had at 12! Tall, hair cut by my mum and no coordination.

I think tall girls have it a bit easier now, as there are more of them.

I was good at swimming, and my tall DD is too. Not good at any other sports. Well she’s only 4 so hard to tell but she seems to get all tangled up in her long legs and long feet and trip up a lot!
