Do you love your mattress?

I need to buy a new mattress. The current one gives me shoulder and hip pain as I sleep on my side. Anyone got a soft comfortable and supportive mattress?

Thank you everyone for sharing the brand & model of mattress you'd recommend. A topper hasn't helped with my mattress induced hip pain so I'm off to do some new mattress shopping

DragonDoor · 06/03/2022 17:22

Are those of you recommending Simba and Emma mattresses side sleepers?

I haven’t go on well with them at all! I think a Simba mattress actually made my back pain worse.

MadMadMadamMim · 06/03/2022 17:26

I absolutely love it. I spent about £1300 on it, which is utterly ridiculous - but my DSis pointed out that I am a really poor sleeper and you spend roughly 8 hours a day in your bed. People would think nothing of spending that on a car - that you maybe use for an hour or so a day.

That struck me as sensible. I bought it on 3 years interest free credit from somewhere like Bensons for Beds and it was the best £34 a month I've ever spent. I'm about 8 years down the line and it's still wonderful.

I do love mine , it's an Octosmart Hybrid Deluxe , expensive but worth it , I sleep better , longer with less discomfort in the morning
Have tried several over the years , this is definitely the best

Which matter did you buy?

We have a Simba. It is out of this world. I will never, ever buy or try another brand in my life - there's no need, it's literally perfect.

We bought it on Ebay from the Simba outlet - it was basically a returned mattress that someone had and sent back within the 100 day window. Then they're deep cleaner and have a brand new outer layer added and boxed up again.

It was pristine, like absolute brand new but cost about a third of the usual price - would highly recommend this for anyone wanting an expensive Simba but not wanting to shell out £800 odd!

We did this too! I think we paid £180-ish for ours around Black Friday. It's amazing.

I'm a side sleeper. My back and hip pain has vastly reduced since getting the Simba. It's so comfy!

Vispring. Love it.

Dilbertian · 06/03/2022 18:15

Yes. Pure latex. No springs, no memory foam. It has a quilted top. It is on sprung slats, but I've also had it on unsprung slats and it was perfect then, too.

Gives us good support for sleeping on back or side. I'm heavy and it is comfy and supportive without feeling saggy or getting too hot (memory foam feels saggy to me and can make me too hot). Doesn't transmit movement: when one person moves around the other person is not jolted or disturbed at all.

Vispring. Love it.
We have a Vispring that I bought about 20 years ago in John Lewis sale and it is as good now as it was 20 years ago and is very comfortable. Not cheap -but basically it will last for life so better than changing every 10 years….
MrsDThomas · 06/03/2022 19:14

I do love it. Bought it from a local shop 10 years ago and i have zero intention of replacing it. Even though “they” tell us to do so.

savemefromsearches · 06/03/2022 20:34

Harrison Spink - absolutely worth every penny.

AmberRoseGold · 07/03/2022 12:23

@Newhorizon21 I think we bought artisan. Was around £4k for super king bed and base but this was 2015. We had paid around double that for a King vispring in 2012 - now use it for guests.
Bought my daughter a John Ryan double mattress- I think the cheapest one they sold- and she really loves her bed too.

AgathaX · 07/03/2022 12:28

We have a Hypnos mattress. It's getting on for 10 years old now but still feels like new, but I suppose we need to think about changing at some point. Would definitely have the same brand again though. Whenever we go away I'm always glad to get home to our lovely comfy bed/mattress.

mewkins · 07/03/2022 12:38

Simba. It is goid when I'm on my own. I find myself rolling towards the middle when dp is here though.

As an aside have you checked your iron levels? Whenever I've had hip pain that has been the problem and iron tablets have really helped x

PinkCosYouAreSoVery · 07/03/2022 12:38

Somnus Legend. We have had it about 3-4 years and even now whenever I get in it I still think 'oooo this is soooooooooo lovely!'. Expensive (about £3.5k for just the mattress) but absolutely do not regret spending that much money and would buy same again if/when it needs replacing (it still looks/feels like new). Its feels very luxurious, its supportive but soft/comfy. I'm a side sleeper. Would really recommend finding a dealer and going to lie out on one.

We tried a vi-spring out of similar cost/spring count etc and found it too soft, though they were still very lovely too.

wonkylegs · 07/03/2022 12:52

We had a Harrison Spink for a bit and although it was very expensive and was comfy when we first tried it. It didn't last though and turned out to be a very expensive mistake.
We struggle because DH and I are very different sizes (I'm tiny & DH is like a tall rugby player) so it ends up being a compromise and I have RA so have joint pain.
The best mattress we ever bought is in our spare room but unfortunately it's too small for our bed and we'd both struggle if we had to regularly sleep on a small double.
We looked at getting it in a kingsize but the company no longer exists.

Boozeless · 07/03/2022 20:58

Another vote for Harrison Spinks. Had our mattress for 8 or 9 years now & its still like new. Did feel a little firm when I first got it so I bought a gorgeous silk covered mattress topper from Soak & Sleep & since then its been blissful.

We did the exact same. £300 odd for a £1200 mattress and it's changed my life!

@LightsoftheNorth

The best mattresses topper I've ever bought is a wool one from Devon Duvets. They are wonderful - keep you cosy in winter, cool in summer and it's like sleeping on a cloud. Because they are all natural fibres, there's no sweating or clamminess. And they last and last (unless your bloody cat is sick all over it, I've never ordered a replacement for something so fast in my life Grin ).
Devon Duvet products are wonderful!!!!

I have a wool topper and two wool duvets (different weights) from Devon Duvets. I love their products and love that everything is all handcrafted in Devon. The customer service is excellent too ❤️❤️❤️
