Belarus is the only open supporter.

This is the BBC article on the attack on Zaporizhzhia

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-60609633

Even if it went badly wrong, the scenario wouid be Fukushima, not Chernobyl.

What I cantnwork out is why it was shelled - rather than attacked with systems that can be aimed

TellMeMoreHellebore · 04/03/2022 21:52

maybe because they have an army full of poorly trained kids!

Pakistan isn’t necessarily supporting him but continuing to do business and I think just signed up a new energy deal with him.

I’ve bought iodine tablets - only action you can take other than a nuclear fallout shelter,

TellMeMoreHellebore · 04/03/2022 22:00

where did you get those? bit extreme for me i think!

VikingVolva · 05/03/2022 08:03

There are media reports that the Ukrainian government is distributing iodine tablets - main google hit is an Israeli newspaper, only British media that is carrying it is The Telegraph. I susupect it may be unconfirmed.

There are also reports of people stocking up with iodine tablets elsewhere in Central Europe, including on Reuters, and also including one warning people not to take them preventatively.

What do iodine tablets do, I'm so uneducated, need to catch up.

It can prevent the take up of radiation by the thyroid

Here's the CDC post-Fukushima information note.

www.cdc.gov/nceh/radiation/emergencies/japan/ki.htm

It doesn't offer full protection, but can help, reduce the harm of radiation on the body. Useful if you are far enough away to survive all effects of the blast itself, but are threatened by fallout. Needn't be a bomb, can happen following incidents at power stations. Radioactive clouds from Chernobyl reached the Lake District
