What is going on with DD? Diarrhoea and having accidents.

6yo DD came home from school on Monday night and had diarrhoea. It was quite bad to the point she had an accident in her pants, we kept her off of school and she had an accident again on Wednesday in the early hours, but nothing after and it seemed like it was better. She has come home from school today and has had yet another accident in her pants, she said she hadn't realised she had done a poo. She has no other symptoms, is running about playing and is otherwise eating and drinking fine. I have no idea what it could be, is this something to take her to the Dr about? Do I send her in tomorrow?

Could she be constipated? If she is very impacted, diarrhoea can be the liquid that flows around a blockage

MumbleCrumbs · 03/03/2022 20:49

No I don't think so? She is pretty regular overall and hasn't complained of being in pain or anything. As I say she has zero other symptoms and is otherwise totally fine.

My first thought was constipation too. Dd suffered like this a lot at a similar age. Her problem was not drinking enough.

Agree with PP. Worth getting checked for impaction. Sometimes there’s minimal other symptoms.

MumbleCrumbs · 03/03/2022 20:52

Having thought about it I don't think it's impaction. On Wednesday afternoon she went and it looked much better, still quite soft but not runny so that is why I sent her in today, today it seems runny again.

Not realising she'd had an accident is particularly classic for overflow from constipation.

MumbleCrumbs · 03/03/2022 20:53

However she is terrible for not drinking enough, we leave drinks around for her/remind her etc but she just never seems very thirsty, its always been an issue.

Another vote for constipation and it being overflow.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 03/03/2022 21:36

I went through similar with my daughter and it was over flow with constipation

Ok I will try and get the GP to take a look at her tomorrow, better safe than sorry!

Hi! Thanks for asking after DD. Yes she's OK now, turned out to be a bug, both DS and DD1 got ill too. Most of DS class at school were off with it too. All recovering now thankfully Smile.
