Anyone else keep getting horrible colds since covid started?

I’ve picked up yet another cold. Not covid.

Every cold I’ve had since this started is now the same. Horribly blocked nose, no smell or taste and lots of sneezing. I can’t sleep because of it so I'm exhausted for days.

Is this just me? Or is everyone getting worse illnesses?

Yes! I've had two colds in the past month. The second one was exactly as you describe. The blocked nose was absolutely awful - I've never experienced anything quite like it. I suffered terribly with coughs and colds as a kid but rarely as an adult.

NewYearEveryYear · 03/03/2022 20:14

Me too! I tend to think it's because we all lived insulated in our houses for a year so our immune systems are all shot and it only takes one little germ... and we're ruined.

DingleyDel · 03/03/2022 20:19

Yes. I’m really not susceptible to coughs and colds normally. Just been ill for another 3 weeks. I’ve been ill with a cough or cold most of the winter. All have been much much worse than covid (pre vaccine) was for me!

I've had one for months. Doctor says it's acute rhinitis, basically post nasal drip. I've been prescribed a steroid nasal spray.

No, I haven’t been I’ll since I had tonsillitis in the first lockdown.

GeneLovesJezebel · 05/03/2022 07:17

*ill

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/03/2022 07:20

On the contrary, it's the fewest colds I've ever had, probably due to social distancing, hand washing etc.

I do worry that my immunity is being lulled into a false sense of security and I'll get clobbered when I do catch something.

Yourway · 05/03/2022 07:28

This has been my worst winter ever for bugs.
Before and during covid I was hardly ever ill (could go 2-3 years without a cold), despite working in a primary school.
This winter I’ve had 2 long, nasty colds and a 6 week chest infection!

ClinkeyMonkey · 05/03/2022 07:35

The only 'cold' I've had for well over a year is Covid! I'm not a Covid denier by the way and know how deadly it has been for many people, but I was lucky enough to experience it as a cold (am vaccinated). I had a stinker of a cold in Sept/Nov 2020 and nothing since. The kids have had a couple of very nasty colds in the last couple of months though.

GinJeanie · 05/03/2022 08:13

I usually get at least two hideous colds over the winter. Since last year I've taken Vit D3 religiously every day and have experienced no colds this winter. May be a complete coincidence but I'm convinced that's it's helping my immune system. Might be worth a shot?

Gocatgo · 05/03/2022 08:56

@GinJeanie I was on D3 last year as I was working in a school through covid. Healthiest I’ve ever been. A good idea!

@BoggisandBunceandBean the worst blocked nose ever! I genuinely cannot breathe with my mouth closed.

I haven't but the kids have.

I'm going to assume it's because we've all been too clean and limited exposure to anything and anyone. Dirt amd germs help keep our immune system working

DrNo007 · 05/03/2022 09:00

I have been on mega doses of vit d3, c and zinc since the start of the pandemic and haven’t had a single cold. I normally get two per year. Am not vaxxed.

SartresSoul · 05/03/2022 10:00

Yeah, same here. Had 2 colds that totally floored me, they were much worse than actual covid. I’m not usually bothered by colds but these ones were just awful, my head felt like it was going to explode.
