What do refuse to give up to save money

After reading the thread about what we will go without to save money i was thinking about what i just couldn't do without. For me it is tea, i will cut down or buy a cheaper brand of most things, but not my tea, i will stick to my brand no matter what. What can't you give up ?

My maternity leave.
I'll scrimp on other things but I'm having the full year off. I've had 3 MCs, it's taken several years to get here and when baby arrives in 3 months I'm determined to make the most of it as we'll probably only have this one.
I had budgeted before TTC for mat leave, cost if living rises mean no NCT/paid-for baby groups/lunches with friends now but we'll find free stuff to do.

Free range eggs and free range chicken but rarely pay full price for the latter and stalk in M&S at yellow sticker time.
Can’t afford to buy it at normal price.

@Corporatefilterneeded

I would say Sacla pesto but I am even balking at that now.
Aldi do a nice version premium/ finest? for 90p that’s lovely and I always bought sacla.

For me hp sauce, apart from that I have no brand loyalty and am easil6 bribed by a special offer.

I think people buy books so authors get paid and can write them..

That’s not really a reason for them to be the last thing you cut out though is it? Everything that people cut out pays somebody. They do get a small amount from the library system as well. Plus for most of the stuff that’s worth reading, the author is already dead!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 03/03/2022 22:56

@DockOTheBay if it's £1 a week then I'm definitely not reducing usage!

Good coffee

SusanSHelit · 03/03/2022 23:23

Coca cola, not pepsi or rola cola or any other generic cola. Has to be coke.

Sausages. They aren't expensive anyway, even 'posh' ones, and cheap ones are vile. I'd rather have no sausages than cheap ones.

Amazon prime. Yes yes I know Jeff Bezos is the devil incarnate etc but between amazon music, amazon TV, food delivery, next day delivery, and kindle it's too much to give up

whiteroseredrose · 03/03/2022 23:24

@16lily

Taking the kids to fun places. We may take a pack lunch and skirt any gift shops but I love going places with them, it's the highlight of my week if we have an adventure planned.

Me too. When I was a SAHM funds were tight but we still had great days out thanks to Tesco Clubcard vouchers and packed lunches.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/03/2022 06:11

Holidays, days out and DS's horse riding lessons. They'd be the absolute last thing to go. I've got a list of what will be the first thing to go and unfortunately charity donations are at the top, hopefully it doesn't come to that. I haven't had my new energy bill yet so no idea what it's going to be.

Long haul Business class flights. Did my first one 10 years ago and could never go back to economy. Flying first class in 5 weeks as a treat.

LondonQueen · 04/03/2022 06:38

My skincare products, wine and my car.

!! I think you must be less affected by price rises than most. Sounds amazing though!

Mine is hello fresh/Gousto. We love it so much it'll be the last thing to go!

Marmelace · 04/03/2022 06:49

Heinz ketchup
Good coffee
Good tea
Splenda, only one I can stand, diabetic
Good eggs
Mutti tomato products
I could go on, spent too many years as a single mum working, bringing my sons up, with no money from their dad, going without, and I'd do it all again for them. I'm a much better place financially now and it's so good getting the stuff that I like.

Having grown up without any heating, and the immersion going on once a week for a bath/shower, it’s heating and hot water for me.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/03/2022 07:04

I’m also came on to say Yorkshire tea. It goes very well with our Yorkshire Water and Yorkshire Milk.

Have you tried the Yorkshire biscuit tea, wasn't sure at first but it definitely grew on me.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 04/03/2022 07:09

brands - i am only loyal to marmite

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/03/2022 07:12

@Marmelace, yes, and the Toast and Jam one!

Afonavon · 04/03/2022 07:14

Heinz ketchup is the only brand I haven’t found a good cheaper alternative.

Broadband is also something I won’t give up.

We have given up on heating though, but luckily it has been a mild winter for us.

Ooh, not had that one.

Madmog · 04/03/2022 07:24

My cats - obviously still need to eat but would cut back to basics brands, go without certain things, to keep them in my life. Will cut back on eating out, holidays, but the cats aren't going!!!
