What do refuse to give up to save money

After reading the thread about what we will go without to save money i was thinking about what i just couldn't do without. For me it is tea, i will cut down or buy a cheaper brand of most things, but not my tea, i will stick to my brand no matter what. What can't you give up ?

Yorkshire decaf tea, tastes like the real thing (tried and tested lots of brands when pregnant)
French salted butter
A yearly weekend to the Lake District. I don't care if I'm in a tent on a site with the most basic facilities

gogohm · 03/03/2022 19:13

Very little, but I'm pretty tight with money and budget so we can afford our lifestyle. Mid income

ChocolateSundayGirl · 03/03/2022 19:14

The internet
Lenor
Decent coffee

Using the dishwasher. I HATE washing up by hand.

Sausages. Budget sausages are just grim, I would probably just go without.

Other than that, not a lot. We don't eat or use many branded products and if we were really hard up I would probably swap the ones which we do use e.g. cereal, although aldi hoops are certainly worse than cheerios it wouldn't bother me that much to swap.

Qwill · 03/03/2022 19:15

Organic milk
Burford Brown Eggs
Proper Assam tea
Monmouth coffee
Proper mayonnaise (I cannot stand weird white Hellmans)
De Cecco pasta
Decent wine

FindingMeno · 03/03/2022 19:17

Pet insurance

Casheeeew · 03/03/2022 19:21

user1487194234 · 03/03/2022 19:23

Heating
Showers every day
Eating out

CheesePlantMurderer · 03/03/2022 19:23

Good eggs
Yorkshire tea
French butter

Other than that don't care one bit!

000oooh · 03/03/2022 19:27

No way will give up haircuts, takeways and occasional holidays.

Crackercrazy · 03/03/2022 19:34

I’m reliably informed by my DC that the Aldi version isn’t too bad, terrible name though - Nutoka!
deadlanguage · 03/03/2022 19:35

Ribena, nothing else is the same!

Surprised to see people saying books. I read dozens of books a year but only buy recipe books or others that I’d need to refer to over and over. Buying fiction feels like such a waste of money when you can get it from the library for free (or order it in for very cheap).

WouldIwasShookspeared · 03/03/2022 19:36

Depends how badly I need to save money really.
I would want to hang on to my coffee as long as possible but if it has to go it has to go.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 03/03/2022 19:41

@DockOTheBay I always thought of people who have dishwashers as lazy and there's no reason to have one. I gave in this year and bought a slimline one for our new kitchen. I'm converted even though I also bought a double Belfast sink to do the washing up in (rarely wash up normally now). I run the dishwasher at least once a day and I honestly don't know how I'd keep on top of it all if I was washing up normally.
I did recently see some stats on the cost of running one and I was pretty shocked. Might have to cut back on the usage.

I also won't be giving up using my tumble dryer as we don't get enough sun in the garden to dry the clothes unless it's a really hot day.

PlanetNormal · 03/03/2022 19:41

Sky Sports.

I’m a massive sports fan. Cricket is my number one sport, with F1 not far behind, so my subscription has a high priority. I was made redundant a few years ago and cut back on plenty of non-essential spending, but not Sky.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 03/03/2022 19:42

Coffee beans, but they re from Aldi
Haircut, but there will be longer gaps in between
Internet
Most other stuff we’ll buy own versions.

itsnotdeep · 03/03/2022 19:43

We all have different priorities. I'd find it really hard to give up nice ground coffee (for home - I don't really do takeaway coffees) and it would be the last thing to go.

On the non-food front, I'd Probably include hair appointments - they make me feel a million times better -although it's not particularly expensive.

DogandMog · 03/03/2022 19:45

Meat
Milk from the milkman (small dairy farmer)
Coffee beans (but can be Aldi's)

DockOTheBay · 03/03/2022 19:46

@PissedOffNeighbour22 welcome to the lazy dishwasher club 🤣
I had a quick look at stats and they seem to say it costs about £1 a week to run a normal sized dishwasher daily. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Which? have an article on dishwasher usage and they reckon running a (full) dishwasher is more economical in terms of water and energy usage than washing the equivalent amount by hand. I'm sticking with mine, provided its full and on the eco cycle!

Nutrigrainygoodness · 03/03/2022 19:52

My gym membership.
Lunch out with friends
Proper cocacola

OldTinHat · 03/03/2022 19:53

Hate bringing doom but I've given up absolutely everything. My hair needs cutting, I haven't had a cup of tea in months, my boiler has probably forgotten how to work. I've even surrendered at the final hurdle now namely baked beans. And I didn't buy them that often but Lidl/Aldi/supermarket value offerings are nowhere near 'the' only brand of beans. So now I don't even have baked beans.

I have nothing else to give up or do without, I've even stopped wearing make up to save money. No one has seen me without make up since the age of 12. I'm 50 now and this is the age I really need to wear it!

Devonchills · 03/03/2022 19:55

Organic eggs
Yorkshire Tea - I know it's not expensive, but there's no way I could ever change to a supermarket brand of tea.

OldTinHat · 03/03/2022 19:55

Oooops! Totally missed the point of the thread!

Okay, I absolutely am not and will not give up my internet connection. No way! Ha!

PatsyJStone · 03/03/2022 19:58

Hair colour, running my old car, heating, but on for less time, dishwasher, baths but never found the water bill too bad. Going to put wood burner on much more as definitely saves money. Finishing all bubble bath, shower gels,/etc. that have built up from presents I’ve received until I actually need some. Cut down already on meals out. Making list for ‘cheap’ meals versus lamb chops!
