Airports for DS 16th birthday. Are the 2nd generation good enough?

I don't know anything about airpods but he says he wants them.
These are £99 and I'm worried he'll end up losing them anyway but I guess at that age he wants to look cool.
The 3rd generation ones are £159.
Any advice

My DS (now 14) got his the Xmas before last. Uses them everyday and thankfully hasn't lost them. Sounds like a great present

LHR was not the 1st airport (assume in London). It was Croydon
