No memory left on phone and not receiving WhatsApps?

If someone told you this. Would you believe them? Is there such a thing?

I guess it is a possibility but then nothing would really work, it is also very easy to free up space if needed. My WhatsApp is currently taking up 321 mb so it is fairly heavy on the memory.

NopeNoNope · 02/03/2022 12:30

It's possible.

My own phone a few days wouldn't let me open WhatsApp because my storage was full. I was receiving messages and could see the notifications but couldn't open WhatsApp to see them but it's resolved in seconds by just deleting a load of photos and all was fine. Or delete some unused apps.

My problem is I take too many screenshots of stupid shit to send to friends and family and forget to delete them.

321mb isn't much at all.

Mine was at 10gb at one point. 😬

Associatepeggy · 02/03/2022 12:39

Could be.

We think mums did that. She moved videos and photos to her laptop and deleted them from the phone and it resolved itself. So we assumed that's what it was.

NopeNoNope · 02/03/2022 12:41

And the rest of my phone worked fine btw apart from being able to take photos. Maybe a little laggy but I could use all my other apps like tik tok and news apps just fine.

Annoyingly I don't have a screenshot to show you the message I had when opening it because I had no storage to do so 🤦🏽‍♀️

Another thing, even if you have WhatsApp set to not store photos sent on the chat, a thumbnail seems to still be stored probably for chat search function I'm guessing and I have to go into each group chat setting and removed them which does drastically reduce the storage it takes.

I'm using an iPhone if it makes any difference. I would believe it could happen but if it was someone using it as a reason for not replying for days or something like that I probably doubt because like I say, it's very easily resolved.

MissusArmitage · 02/03/2022 13:15

Yes. Happened to me

blankee · 02/03/2022 14:04

Yes it happens. I had it quite often on my old phone - Whatsapp just stops working, everything else is fine. Weird but there you are.

Iwilldrinktothat · 02/03/2022 14:23

More context behind my post. Online date has gone quiet, we were supposed to meet today after work and haven't heard from him for 2 days.. My last message is still on two grey ticks and his last online is during the last time he spoke to me. I went on the app this morning and saw him online so sent him a message saying thanks but no thanks.. All of a sudden I get a text saying his phone has no memory and he can't open his WhatsApps and he was trying to free up some memory by deleting apps and he had gone on the dating app to delete messages. Told him I won't be disrespected and he's basically saying he's telling the truth and wants to see me etc.
Not sure what to believe.

Not sure about whether to believe this person or not but to answer your original question, this has happened to me way too many times. It is most definitely a thing. And yes, sometimes can still text even if I can't receive WhatsApp messages or sometimes you can send a message but not receive.

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/03/2022 14:28

It happened to me.

InDubiousBattle · 02/03/2022 14:29

I had this. Old, rubbish phone filled up and WhatsApp stopped working until I deleted some stuf

nearlyspringyay · 02/03/2022 14:30

If photos / videos are automatically saving to camera roll it can happen.

My whatsapp is currently at 605MB, no issues.

Iwilldrinktothat · 02/03/2022 14:32

I think irrespective, he could've just sent a normal text message or picked up the phone to call me to tell me, we've spoken on phone several times. Just find it a bit disrespectful. I can believe the not receiving messages on WhatsApp thing, but doesn't mean you have to be disrespectful.

I genuinely had this happen the other day.
Needed to clear out the photos in WhatsApp of other peoples babies as those mum groups were killing my storage.
However couldn't get on WhatsApp to sort it.

Almost bricked my phone deleting everything else to get onto WhatsApp to clear those chats.

And I work in software so I should definitely know better Grin

However I managed to sort it all within about 4 hours

Babymamma192 · 02/03/2022 14:33

Yeh this is definitely a thing! Happens to me all the time and I've got huge memory on my phone and an extra memory card too!
The memory on my phone is all taken up by the thousands of photos and videos of my kids.

LaBelleSausage · 02/03/2022 14:35

@Iwilldrinktothat completely agree that a normal person would have texted to say there was an issue!

lollipopsandrainbows · 02/03/2022 14:37

Yep; DD has an iPhone and hasn't been able to receive WhatsApp messages recently due to her storage being full.

Iwilldrinktothat · 02/03/2022 14:37

I believe him regarding WhatsApp. But takes two seconds to drop a text and he literally would've just not turned up today. I'm not up for that type of behaviour. He's pleading with me now and saying he's telling the truth and said he's sorry for making me feel the way he has. Not sure what to do.

This happens to my phone allll the time it's so annoying

If you don't want to continue, then don't.

But tbh, if I realised my WhatsApp wasn't working and I had to fiddle around with it, I would do that first before texting someone.

But if its put you off, it's put you off. Though I am not sure why if you believe him

BuddhaForMary · 02/03/2022 14:48

This happens to mine all the time and DC too. It's a pain tbh because sometimes it won't let you open the app in order to delete stuff to make space!

DaveGrohl · 02/03/2022 14:49

Yip happened to me continually and my iPhone wasn’t even that old - I just had way too many photos stored on it. Caused all sorts of problems (like the one you describe!)

BuddhaForMary · 02/03/2022 14:51

Tbh I'm also in this camp. I'm not at all disrespectful, but I'd be taken up trying to sort my WhatsApp and I'd likely not think to text while I was faffing with it. But if you're not happy with it then you're not happy, that's the bottom line really.

QuizzicalEyebrows · 02/03/2022 14:53

Oh yes absolutely.

My old iphone ran out of memory and was virtually redundant it was so annoying and frustrating

Iwilldrinktothat · 02/03/2022 14:53

I guess I've just left it to him. I'm not going to be contacting him again. If he gets in touch that's up to him. He's been quite apologetic but I think it's the fact we were supposed to meet and I would've just been left hanging and waiting for him not to turn up.
