Will this be too good to be true?

Our local college has a offer on currently… £15 for a full head of highlights by a level 2 student… has anyone had their hair done by a college student at level 2? My hair desperately needs doing but I do worry about mistakes being made as of course they are only still learning! Shall I give it a shot?!

The students will be heavily supervised, I'd imagine.
I'd go for it!!

Etinoxaurus · 02/03/2022 08:42

And hair grows Wink
Go for it!

Gingernaut · 02/03/2022 08:42

The students are supervised every step of the way.

It will take hours, though.

Do it. They'll be supervised and you'll be helping them gain experience.
Win-win

CMOTDibbler · 02/03/2022 08:52

Back in the day I always had my hair done at the hairdressing school. It took forever but they did a great job as it was so heavily supervised

Hilites · 02/03/2022 09:01

Going to book in! My hair always takes hours as it is though! 😯

I had my hair 'trimmed' years ago by a student - came out 5 inches shorter. It's put me off for life! Yes it grows back but it takes time.
I think they must be better supervised these days. I would only go if you are not super precious about your hair and can cope with mishaps. It is something of a gamble. Then again, you could say going to the hairdresser in general is to a degree!

lilye88 · 02/03/2022 09:19

yes the local college is always cheaper for hair & beauty treatments. However it will usually take twice - three times as long as a established hairdresser. They will be supervised all through the appointment

LizDoingTheCanCan · 02/03/2022 09:27

I did this once, came out looking like a badger.

If you are going to do it, I'd only book with a level 3 student, or go somewhere like the Sassoon training school.

Go for it. They will be supervised. Be aware it'll probably take about 8 hours lol

CIaireFraser · 02/03/2022 10:12

I have my teeth looked after my dentistry students (including extractions and root canals) so I'd have no qualms whatsoever about students doing my hair! What's the worse that could happen?!

Me too I always used to get my hair cut by trainees and only don't now as the salon I used stopped being a training salon . They were great but yes it does take ages
DottyHarmer · 02/03/2022 10:18

Colour, yes. A cut? Not sure… my aunt used to go to the local college and her hair looked… severe. Like a games mistress.

I once took my dog to be groomed at the local college. I found afterwards he was covered in nicks - one quite deep Sad

larrythelizard · 02/03/2022 10:25

This is how I got my hair highlighted at uni - I think it was £10 for a full head of highlights and a cut. Was the Toni & Guy training salon. Took forever but I had plenty of time! Was very well supervised and always cut my hair as I wanted (not that I was all that demanding).

LimeSegment · 02/03/2022 10:47

I got a blow dry done by a student once and it took an hour! And my hair is shoulder length and very thin, normally takes 15 mins. Wouldn't do it again, and definitely not for something that already takes a while like highlights. My time is worth more.

pricelessdice · 02/03/2022 10:49

I've done this. It took so long they had to take out the foils on one side and wash out the dye before they'd even finished putting the foils on the other side Grin

Ttcfinalbub · 02/03/2022 10:51

Yes they will take longer but some are also actually better then some professionals because they're still fresh and passionate about their work

This happens to me every time I have my hair done in the salon! In the salon it takes approx 4-5 hours I have very long hair! I’m wondering if it will take 8hours for them to do my hair 😆
